Queen Latifah Acknowledges Life Partner at BET Awards

Nine years ago Queen Latifah denied 'coming out' after signaling she was part of the LGBTQ community during a Gay Pride celebration in Long Beach CA [click here if you missed that].

Latifah has come a long way since then...

On Sunday night while accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award from BET Queen Latifah thanked Eboni [Nichols] referring to her as 'my love' and ended her acceptance speech by saying "Happy [Gay] Pride [Month].

She had to protect her career. Blacks have to wait for the Yts to make it main stream first.

@12:48

The yts have made gays mainstream for almost 25 years. I just think Q. Latifah is a private person and doesn't want to be pigeonholed into the "gay persona". I respect her decision to live her life the way that she chooses to.

The tribute was way better than I expected. Seeing Queen Latifah become emotional had me tearing up too lol. I just loved the love and respect that so many of her industry peers have for her. And to be a black woman who's dominated the rap industry, acting, producing, and has transitioned into a formidable power in Hollywood - all while maintaining close relationships with other black women and men in the industry - is an incredible feat! The whole time I watched the tribute, I thought to myself: could this ever be Nicki Minaj 20-30 years from now? How many black artists in the industry would have something positive to say about Nicki's contribution to black excellence? How many black women would proudly perform her hits and showing love to the doors she opened? My thoughts? Not many. If any. Nicki and Beyonce have this competitive negative energy when it comes to the industry; they think that there can only be #1 black woman, black artist, black person. And so they do a lot of underhanded and shady shit behind the scenes to sabotage other black artists. And in the end, no one is really interested in celebrating their achievements because of how horribly they shit on other artists to make it to the top. And to me, that's what makes Queen Latifah's honor that much more amazing; the fact that she's achieved so much while uplifting and remaining loyal to other black artists. She will never have anything less than my respect. Facts.

God does not like prideful people. Heterosexual's aren't proud of who they choose to sleep with, so I do not get why a homosexual needs to be?
I was open and decided to date a woman (I am a woman) for a while. We clashed because she wanted to openly show affection in public. I did not as I never dated a woman and was not comfortable with it. It was almost as if she wanted to show the world, "look at me I'm with a woman". We got in a fight, because I told her that it's different being with a woman and men offer things a woman can not like leadership, action and security. She disagreed and said there is no difference between a man and a woman in that regard. She thinks a woman can do what a man can, besides offer you a dick. After being with her for a year it's simply not true. We travelled together and I saw the difference, we lived together and I saw the difference, we had situations and I saw the difference. If you don't mind the difference and lack of dick then, so be it. But I didn't like the difference and need dick, so it is not for me. Besides dealing with a woman's emotions, attention needs and bitchy competitive nature is NOT something I want to deal with in a relationship, no thank you. I will take a simple man that just needs a good fuck daily and leaves me the hell alone!
Most of these prideful gay peo

Most of these prideful gay people just like to get off by being rebellious and want something to prove. She was married for 10 years and left her husband, because she didn't want kids. She is a selfish, superficial, attention seeking person and THIS is the real nature of GAY people. It's all about having an openly sexual and free lifestyle and doing what you want. It was only a matter of time before she wanted to use a dildo and I didn't want to, because I didn't see the point as if I wanted dick I'd want the real thing. It's a twisted wicked mentality. YOU CAN NOT HAVE IT ALL! This is also what most gay people are striving towards. So when people tell you it's just about being open to loving someone and love is love. It's a lie!
The children that know they are gay from toddler ages are the ONLY real true homosexuals and I do not fault them at all for that.

^ your situation was yours. Everyone's experience is different. You also like your puss eaten. Does your man eat it as well as your women? Does your man have a little or big peen?
Thank you for your story but it your story. Not everyone's.

Heterosexuals don't have a history steeped in shame and oppression over their sexual preference, so I don't know why this argument continues to be used. Also, gay ppl wouldn't have to announce their sexuality if religious zealots weren't constantly trying to vilify their choice to live and love who they want. After all it's not gay ppl going around encouraging violence and hatred for straight ppl having heterosexual relationships. It's the homophobes and sexually repressed zealots...so, yes, that's why there's pride and celebration in coming out and coming to terms with who you love and not having any fear or shame associated with that love. For too long black ppl have allowed an archaic religion (that was imposed on us during slavery by our oppressors) to preach hatred and violence towards anyone that doesn't live their life the way that they think they should. And life is too damn short and stressful to allow anyone to have that type of power over you. Live your life and fuck anyone that got something to say about it!

I've been waiting on this post or for someone to catch what she said. What's understood, don't need to be explained. However, it's like she lowkey came out on the cool tho. She shouted out her baby mama, then the baby and then said, " Happy Pride Month".

It was this same mischievous smirk she had when she played Cleo. I see you Dana. Love her qnd she is the real QUEEN.

@2:55 yes we do! Hence arranged marriages and the idea of marriage alone. Our relationships are really only accepted when there’s financial, religious or political influence. You cant be unmarried and in love. You cant marry this culture or bc of a classism system. So before you start the who has it worse ideology please believe homosexuality wasn’t always under religious or political persecution. Some would say it took Christianity.

@3:38

That is a false equivalency if ever I heard one. Patriarchy and Islamic cultural repressions are not the same thing as homophobia - which intersects across cultural and religious norms. Just like yt ppl, Christians looks for any opportunity to present themselves as a victim anytime they're confronted with their discriminatory practices. Smh

@Unknown 2:32PM, That was PERFECTLY stated. Very few Black female artists openly promote or support one another but Dana's been for the sisterhood since Day Uno. I don't care who she sleeps with or how she lives her life privately. What I do appreciate is that she's always been a class act and consistently carries herself with dignity and respect. Luvs her for that!!

@2:48 I've been in musical theatre and dance my whole life. I've seen with my own eyes and didn't judge over the years. But now it's come to a head. The gay mentality is foul! They would have been better off keeping their lifestyle in the closet, because their world is a fantasy. They perpetuate themselves like they are saints. Gay people are on the other side of the coin as haters. If you do not agree with tIts a warped world in a very destructive world. And no I am not speaking about every gay person! But the culture...
A certain type of kid sees that young and their sexuality has been chosen for them. Impressions are powerful.

I love how she represents lesbian women. She's not out here exploiting her sexuality as a gimmick like Bussy Nas X. Pure class!

@6:09

I'm bisexual and I agree with you that the LGBTQ world had become toxic. However, I'm proud to be queer. Sorry you had a bad experience.
