I like when people remake classics IF they can bring something new to it. Aretha was notorious for that, not that Lil Nas X is Aretha, but she's a good example of taking a classic (from her contemporaries like Marvin and Tammy, Dionne Warwick, Sam Cooke) and putting your own stamp on it. She always brought something new to the mix and made you rethink how a song should be sung.
Good jazz artists will step on classics, too. I love it, but it's a waste when someone sings it the same as the last person .... and that's just what Lil Nas X did with Jolene. Dolly's version is so much better. He should have just left it alone.

I love the original version. Leave that classic alone.

He needs another hit song. That foolish devil worship song is not making it happen. 15 seconds of fame are up.
@ Alma... and WHouston turned Dolly Parton song out 'I will always love you'. Made millions for Dolly and WH.
Nas X is no WHouston Womp Womp.
10,:50 ,,lol
The little pansy pants wannabe has exhausted his 15 minutes of fame. Nothing but gimmicks now.
