I Thought We Were Watching Queens?

This week 'Queens' starring Brandy, Eve and Naturi Naughton as 40-something rap stars who get back together premiered on ABC [click here if you missed that].

Not that many tuned in to watch it...

According to reports only 1.8 million viewers tuned in for Queens this week despite following popular show The Bachelorette, who managed to snag 2.8 million viewers.

Did you watch? Was it good? Is Queens gonna make it?

I liked it. It was well paced. Of course they had to make one of them downlow gay.

I watched, it was ok - the non Melenated in the middle did just add some uck factor to the show... but other than that - it was ok, well paced is a good word, because there was a lot to introduce...it was ok...
Overtly Christian and downlow.... but that's network TV for ya...

Yes, I liked the back stories, did not enjoy the cussing in the rap lyrics which I basically tuned out. I don't like their stage moniker (Nasty Bitches) which totally goes against the name of the show "Queens". I think it has a chance if it is cleaned up some.

I enjoyed it!!!!!! Pretty good especially considering it was the first episode!

It was ok. I’ll give a few weeks before it gets cancelled. ABC and FOX are notorious for canceling shit

I already knew I wasn't gonna watch it. Ditch the Hispanic chick and find music that is explicit every other word. This on network tv, not Starz, HBO, or Showtime

Isn't

This was good (like 3.5/5 stars) and I don't mind the Latina because the storyline stresses that she's not only the least talented but the most flawed of the four. It's gonna be interesting to see the old school vs the new (lil Muffin, or whatever that character's name is). They could've gotten a better looking actor to play the manager. He's too ugly to fight over, better as a good guy.

NO, NOT, NOTHING....the promo said a Big No to me.

ABC is probably the wrong network for the show. Its definitely getting cancelled. They better hope Netflix or Starz picks it up afterwards.

The fact that the star of the show recently announced her pregnancy isnt a good sign either...

Ummmm the manager is not ugly and even if he were it would be a realistic scenario. Women fight over ugly men everyday...

I watched and it was surprisingly better than I expected. The Mexican girl sticks out like a sore thumb and does't fit in well but overall the storylines are actually really good. I hope they keep it up and won't turn it into an Empire type show because then I'll tune out. So far, so good.

The premise is just like the recent show Girls5Eva.

I didn't and won't watch (not that I would've anyway) but especially not after some of these comments. So nobody at the network could've come up with a better name than Nasty Bitches for these Women of Color? That's was the most fitting moniker anyone could think of? So when exactly does the Queens part come in? And what the purpose of all the profanity? Aren't 'Queens' supposed to become more evolved after 40? Who's all the cussing supposed to appeal to? The Lil Muffin demographic? And why do Black women always have to fight over some dusty Ninja who doesn't really want them? I'd really like to understand the rationale.

I guarantee no one at ABC would dare green light a show about a now grownup White female pop group formerly known as Skanky Hoes or Dirty Cunts. Yet it's OK for us to be Nasty Bitches on prime-time. I swear sometimes our people will settle for damn near anything. And then we wonder why we're always relegated to the bottom of the respectability pool. But hey, at least we on network TV, right?

Eve got pull and money, she should've demanded more. If these girls were supposed to be huge pop/rap stars in the late 90s (En Vogue, Salt n Pepper, Lil Kim, Lauren Hill, Destiny's Child, TLC, Xscape), how did they land on "Nasty Bitches"? Who were they supposed to be channeling in the 90s that achieved so much success? Cause fighting over dusty niggas, while in a successful girl rapping/singing group, sounds awfully parallel to Salt n Pepper's group.

I said in another post that black women expect and accept the bare fucking minimum (re: da baby), and here we are with another classic example of women allowing themselves to be disrespected and demeaned all for the sake of fucking hip-hop. We need to excavate ourselves from hip-hop. Or, at least find a way to make it a subculture of blackness. Kinda like how some yt ppl are proud of being dirty, poor, rednecks. That how we need to treat hip-hop. Something that exists, but we're not openly proud of.

What Ms Mac, 3:51 PM said. I am tired of the disrespect of the black women's legacy who's been carrying this race on it's back for centuries. I was not impressed #hoodratculturefatigue

I did not watch this show and I will not be watching it in the future, even if there is a future. If they cancel this show so be it. I will not shed on tear.

I liked it. And have nothing against Latinos. I did not like the random gay storyline, especially since she had a nice husband. I needed more backstory with that.. And I didnt like "nasty bitches" reference. But it's not too far from today's female rappers.

Eve, Trina killed you in Verzus! You done got so white no one knows who the hell your ass ever was! I was disgusted when I saw her ass on “The Talk” with Sharon Osborne’s racist ass a few years ago trying to fit in with ok ass white women, I was done! You ain’t toured in almost two decades or acted and your don’t know your own basic bars to your raps! Swiss and Dr. Dre must have been ashamed not to mention DMX (RIP)! If DMX’s ass who was a heavy drug and drunk can remember his bars all these years then so should Eve’s ass! She sold out of the culture! Sad but true!
