Last night video of Dave Chapelle angrily announcing at a Yellow Springs City Council meeting that he would withdraw his pledge of $56 million was posted on social media along with claims that Dave did NOT want affordable housing in his neighborhood.

Dave Chapelle explains the REAL reason for his threat.
'Dave Chappelle didn't kill affordable housing. Concerned residents and a responding Village Council 'killed' a half-baked plan which never actually offered affordable housing,' Chappelle's publicist said in a statement.
At issue is a significant new $39 million housing development that has divided the village - but far from being an affordable housing plan, Chappelle says only three lots out of 143 are devoted to 'future' affordable housing.
Chappelle, who is worth an estimated $50 million, lives on the outskirts of Yellow Springs on a 39-acre farm in a three-bedroom home which he bought for $690,000 in 2015. His property is right next to the proposed development.

Do I understand this correctly, he doesn't want noisy ppl coming on his land possibly bring down the property value or there are not enough dwellings for low-income ppl? I am not sure what this means. I read somewhere else he didn't want any low-income ppl next to his property. He needed to explain this better than ranting about not investing in the town because of this housing development.

To all posters before me, that is why Reading is Fundamental. They were utilizing government funds and trying to capitalize off of Dave's investment money...then they changed the plans to reflect a development where the base cost of homes would not be considered affordable housing ($300K). Dave called them on their bull; he was actually doing a good thing!

Yeah, I read on another blog that the developer was trying to "gentrify" the area with overpriced homes; the medium income of the city is $65k, and the developers were trying to bring homes with a starting value of $300k. It was only when the residents were upset about the home costs that the developer included that bit about "affordable housing", which wasn't affordable at all. So, I applaud D. Chappelle. I knew there had to be more to the story because Dave comes from a blue collar, working class background. And chose to raise his family in a small town, rather than a house mansion in L.A... that isn't the behavior of an elitist trying to block upward mobility to low-income families; which is what the story was meant to allude to.
The information on this story on different websites did not explain the info. nor did DC. Your D student comments are uncalled for. If this was explained in that content of what the developer was trying to do then we all would have a better understanding of the situation.
Educating instead of insulting is how we help and grow.
Developer was basically trying to build expensive homes no one there can afford and Dave checked them. Everyone should know by now Dave's heart is in the right place. He has over 65 million invested in that city and he's not letting them run poor folks out. No one can afford a $400,000 house or the property taxes that come with it.
That's a part of Ohio that is low in jobs and income.
Why didn't the description up top about Dave's house include his address as well? You don't even need Google maps for this. I think I'll drop by this week.
