This week singer / songwriter India Arie announced she was removing her music from Spotify after sharing a montage of Joe Rogan using the N-word on his podcast, citing the disparities between what Spotify pays Rogan vs what recording artists are paid [click
here if you missed that].
Following backlash Joe puts his N-word usage in context...
In a video posted on Instagram Joe Rogan explains while the video looks bad, it is taken out of context. Joe claims in the past he felt if he was using the word to explain something it was ok to use. Joe says he no longer feels that way and hasn't said the word in years.

Yeah whatever.....but on the real, no matter the context~~ Black folks need to stop using the word PERIOD~~otherwise, why get mad...until we completely abolish and make the word extinct
Agreed^^^
And fuck that white man
Fuck mr. Rogan. Lenny Bruce wanted whites to see their own images. Joe Rogan isn't Lenny fucking Bruce.
*Such a sad & ugly Garbage Human. Hate & Racism is ALL they have. Unfortunately, sad & true*... No matter how much money, fame or notoriety they acquire. They will ALWAYS be dead inside. Morally Bankrupt & dead in their eyes/soul...
The issue truly is that every race seems to want the right to use the N-Word but they never use that same passion to call themselves by their own racial slurs. I am mixed race and very fair. I picked up on other groups fixated on Black folks and it's wierd. Anyway, our people reinvented the word but that's NOT why other groups want to say it, they say it with evil intent. If they like racial slurs so much then why don't they use slurs on themselves? It's because they know it is wrong and they would never disrespect themselves. They want the right to slick demean Black folk, period. Sometimes I wonder if God has a hidden plan? Why is everyone so fixated on Black folk when our people are just living? Peculiar.
Joe Rogan always gave off that inner superiority vibe where he will try ti intellectualize his bull crap ideology. I have never heard him say honky but he sure has said the N word. So if folks love racisl slurs, why use the one that doesn't apply to themselves? Its because they respect themselves.
He was slanging the hard R like a crazy man
I love that India Arie made this b!tch apologize. Even those two old hippies couldn’t get that out of him.
The apology came with a weak-ass, long-ass explanation, but it’s an apology saying white people cannot use this word (even while we can) and he will not do it again. Let’s see how that goes over with his followers.
Thank you, India.
The n word is like interracial dating, it harms strong black unions. Like the IR agenda that we are currently being exposed to, saying Nigg* every five minutes also hurts and weakens us as a black community.
He still uses that word.
I dont care what he says.
And so does the his guest on his shows ..saw we saw previously!
Now he should have been suspended! He knew the use of this word was wrong, Whoopi on the other hand really didn't know that two groups of people, of the same complexion were of different races. Double Standard still is in existence!
ALL Yt ppl know by now the N word is off limits to them, but they just want to use it for that very reason. They trying to be down with our culture.
My ppl need to stop calling themselves that word regardless of how they mean it.
Hip Hop failed on flipping the word to mean different definitions, depending on how you say it. There are many other loving and endearing ways to embrace love for one another. Such as: Brother, Black King, My Man how are you today etc.. The N word should be stricken from all vocabulary.
Unpopular opinion here but I doubt his past misdeeds would've been an issue if another White man didn't make a stink about something that had nothing to do with him saying the N word for over a decade. In fact, even after he recently made that ridiculous statement about Black people not being truly Black unless they look like a Black Crayola, the Black community didn’t really blow up. Trevor Noah sorta mocked him but there wasn't any outrage or calls for off with his head. So all these years of degrading Black people but nobody had a problem with it until he started to "spread Covid misinformation." Interesting.
It's also interesting that his Planet of the Apes story wasn't enough to get Black folks riled up back then. And in fact, he was catapulted even further into the wealth stratosphere afterwards. He's used his platform for many years to share his views about a lot of things. But Black people -- celebrities and regular folks alike -- didn't take issue with him using the N word freely (but only in context, as he claims), and he got a pass until money (it’s always about MONEY) became the dividing line between what artists are paid and what's he's paid. And to me, those two things have absolutely nothing to do with one another. So what does that say about where our priorities lie? I’d argue that as Black people, we need to recognize our worth much sooner because by the time we've decided to get mad, it's already too late and too many checks have been cashed -- and very few are to us.
I don't follow him or listen to his podcast so I have no dog in this fight and don't care what happens to him. And look, if Nick and Whoopi had to appease the Jews to keep the chips flowing and keep their jobs, then Joe's apology to Black people is no different. It’s a horse and pony show and they're all playing the same exact game. But all this outrage isn't going to hurt his pockets one bit because he's already stinking rich. The fact remains that some white people’s distaste for us is so embedded in their genetic code that they have no way of hiding it. It’s also a fool’s game to pretend we can magically fix them by eliminating a word. The damage is done. Black people really need to focus more on what they do and worry less about what they’ve said.
There are more important things for us to expend our energy on. Tucker Carlson and Fox News are way more harmful than he is. All these politicians working overtime to upend our voting rights and gerrymander the heck out of voting districts are more dangerous than he is. These banks and financial institutions that underhandedly create roadblocks for building Black wealth are the ones I'm worried about. These roving racists who deny the right to teach America’s real history in schools are the ones to watch out for. But Joe Rogan saying the N word don't mean shit to me because he’s just saying out loud what most of them are already thinking.
Nevertheless, good on India -- a whole entire unapologetically Black, Black woman -- for being the one who brought this White man to his knees and beg for our forgiveness. I can appreciate the effort.
@10:18PM
Exactly!
thank you Ms Mac
ms mac- great point. I'm also curious why black ppl are radio silent on this. What black artists are currently on Spotify? Let's start there.
He ain't no more racist than any other white person. And if you don't want white people saying ni**a don't put it.in a song!
@6:25
WE will say whatever the fuck we want, when we want, where we want, and how we want. And as long as racist idiots like Joe feel comfortable calling blacks niggas the more we'll make sure it hurts his pockets, his brand, and his reputation. Fuck him and fuck your coon ass.
@7:00 You the coon! Cause the logic is nonsense. Calling yourself a n**ga in a song and expecting white, Asian Etc not to say it is dumb. We ALL Know that they are. And you damn right they still think we are exactly that.
