Keke Palmer is BLACK and Zendya is a mixed raced. How can you compare them? Colourism should only come into play when the races are the same. Compare like with like. Only Americans claim racially ambiguous people - and they seem proud of it too.

The tweeter tried it. Nothing against Zendaya, but we not about to downplay Ms Palmer’s career.

Zendaya is Black. This non-debate is not discussion worthy.

Zendaya has a dark skinned, dreadlock wearing, African father with a yt woman for a mother - she's biracial. Keke, is the daughter of two black parents - she's black. The colorism discussion was created for this very reason; yt ppl elevating lighter toned, ambiguous, women of color (not necessarily of African descent) to play black American women on screen. Black women don't see themselves when they look at Zendaya. They see a beautiful woman of color cosplaying a black woman. If Keke had Zendaya's complexion, she would definitely be more mainstream with more opportunities for success - like Zendaya.

However, I personally believe that Keke's grating personality, sense style (or lack of stylist), and hood antics are why she's not more mainstream. Every time I watch Keke, it comes with chicken neck rolling, sassy comebacks, and overt sexuality; that behavior is not relatable when you look like Keke. Whereas Zendaya has a great team behind her; when she's in interviews she's silly, fun, approachable, and has a calming spirit to her; she's someone that young women admire and that grown women can feel safe around. Keke doesn't.

I hate to see two beautiful women of color being pitted against each other, but, maybe this will be a wakeup call for Keke to take her career more seriously. Someone said Keke is 28, but she looks at least 38! I don't know what that's about, but, Keke needs to hire a nutritionist, fitness instructor, a stylist, and media training. Not every comment deserves a resume rundown and a sassy clapback. Sometimes silence is golden - look at Zendaya - girl is too busy being booked for film, television, and modeling gigs with luxury brands to entertain trolls on social media - Keke needs to find that same energy instead of bringing attention to toxic energy.

This has nothing to do with color. I don’t know enough about the business to know exactly who was behind her but Zendaya didn’t just creep onto the scene, she was launched with a long term, perfectly planned stealth publicity campaign. There was an army curating her success, while Keke just stumbled into the industry and fumbled around until all the pieces finally came together for her. Colorism is a huge factor in our race, but not in this situation.

Zendaya has a carefully curated team behind her that knows she is what mainstream wants.
