She included Aaliyah . Hmmm …… I tried to give it a chance. I don’t hate it but don’t care for it either. The Madonna feature is odd. I listened to a snippet of the entire album and this was the best song, unfortunately.
I believe they had a meeting a few years back where Madonna passed her the crown/throne (whatever we want to say, Madonna RULED the industry and was the top female pop entertainer for a long minute). This is Madonna acknowledging and passing the torch on the public stage.
This is actually a big deal.
I'm not losing my mind, but I can see what it signifies. Bey is the last woman standing from her era who is still on top. That says a LOT. She survived a lot of madness and seems to have more control over her career than most. Despite what one may think of her, her catalog, etc, you cannot deny her business acumen and the effect she's had.
A Black woman being on top of the industry and acknowledged as such by EVERYONE means more than most of us realize.
I still remember that GQ article that mocked her when she said she didn't realize her own power. People laughed at her. That was one of her last interviews.
She made it a point to show those (white) people how powerful she is and make them eat crow. I see it because that's what the women in my family said about their own climb to the top of corporate America.
Whatever you think of her, Bey made it happen, and she seems to be riding the wave on her own terms. Kudos to you, Bey.
This new Beyonce album is targeted towards the alphabet soup crew. The album isn't deep. It actually is the worst of all her work. All she does is say nigga, designer names, along with every gay phrase known to man. But her " fans" will never be honest they like whatever she puts out. This was lazy.
Thing is, she chose the biggest poser to do music with, instead of doing a "collab" with the woman she stole her track from. Typical, but that's y'all's
No, she tried it when she made some comment about the Mona Lisa at the Louvre and Madonna checked that ass. Beyhive couldn't do shit about that. This is all about making amends, nothing more. Madonna's Vogue sample was only used, she's not singing new lyrics.
I can tell some of the commenters are biased and have not listened to the album, There's funk, soul, afrobeat, bounce beat. Plastic Off the Sofa is the closest to a ballad, but there's plenty genres on this project other than house.
@10:20. I get what you're saying and it is like that Lifetime movie Jennifer Lewis made years ago "they only let in one at a time". Thing is, Bey isn't the first. Whatever the public thinks of Diana Ross, she will always reign as that trailblazer. Even though her career has cooled in the past couple of decades, people still bump her disco/club music like it came out last week. The stage was set for the torch to be passed to Whitney but we'll just say she wasn't ready. Not a Bey hater but I think if Matty was still running things, her recent material would've been memorable.
TOTALLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE! (I wasn't referring to the genre of music but) She isn't the first.
She is the top woman right now and is officially sitting on the music throne until she slowly fades away/slows down, like Madonna. No one is pushing her off or telling her where to go. That's part of the reason she is disliked. She played the respectability game until she achieved enough to hold her own and not have to kowtow. <-- The traits necessary to achieve that are not admired in women. Men are admired when they fight to the top. People have resentment for women who get to the top. Even other women.
It takes a lot for any woman to fight to get in that position.
And yes, her latest release would've been better if her dad were still in the picture. I still wish she hadn't ended up with Jay, but that's another topic.
Silly argument. Whitney, Celine Dion, Mariah were not hated on. Stop with the theatrics. She's hated on because she steals other people's ideas for very mediocre music. And her stans are just terrible and doesn't allow people to have a critical opinion about her. She doesn't sing anymore--she screams on every song and her music is like banging pots and pans. I also blame The Dream for those terrible beats.
No one is above critique. Whitney and Mariah were critiqued but not hated on because their music, and talent were still timeless and still remained classy. People are allowed to criticize and like who they want and dislike who they don't. This incessant convincing by the Beyhive is so annoying. If some people don't like her music, so what? It's your favorite artist, keep supporting her. Stop convincing people that she is the best, esp. with nasty behavior. To many people she is not, and doesn't stand with the greats. You're not going to change their minds.
2:08 Whitney was definitely hated on. She was boo’d by a black audience when her name was called out back in the day at the awards show. They claim her music was pop not R&B which was stupid. She had some good dance bangers.
You all must be in your teens and 20’s. Whitney was hated on by her own race. It took awhile but the black community embraced her. I remember people pitting her against other R&B female artists saying she didn’t have enough soul in her music.
No I clearly remember that. She was primarily R&B and then came out with "Dance with Somebody." It was considered a drastic changed and it was like she sold out given her gospel background. But no one hated on her actual talent. This issue with Beyonce is not the same at all. Her talent has declined over many years. She doesn't sing anymore. She screams and does these weak raps. Her music is not melodious at all. This is the opinion of many people. If she has fans, that's fine. But no one else is convinced.
@4:42 How has her talent declined? You clearly have not listened to the vocals on this album to say she is screaming. Mama is SINGING. If you listen to the melody and pure vocal agility on Virgo's Groove and still feel the same, I'm convinced that you just WANT to not like her.
DO YOU BOO BOO! As I said, NO ONE HAS TO LIKE HER! Who cares what you think if she's your favorite artist. Her album is trash and many people have that opinion. Just like you have yours. Again with the stupid convincing. The music is lazy and not melodious. You are correct. I don't want to like her, because I don't like how her musicality has declined over the years. This shit is ridiculous! And it's not a unique opinion--look at the other blogs as well!

She lost me at "Queen Mother Madonna"... then proceeding to name all these legendary black women after her.
Desperate times call for deperate measures.
Uuuhhh, no.
^^^^^
Because she can’t articulate a clap back. She still sounds like a 5th grader.
Actually, that’s an insult to them.
FUCK THIS SATANIST. BEYONCE BEEN CLONED!
She named the Black women that should have been in the first Madona's Vogue song. That was a big controversy went it came out.
Yall want this woman to fail so badly and she continually slays almost everything she touches.
Hahahahah
Ha.
Ok. No hate. This is fire. Production is top notch. Def anthem.

She has only 4 studio albums for such a long solo career. I don’t get the hype. People must be cursed and under a spell. I don’t get it.
I've never been a big fan of her music. I'll listen to Madonna's old stuff before I listen to Beyodel.
@12:26 Ok fair, I get that...but Madonna is "Queen Mother" of gimmicks and nothing else. I've never seen it for her.
So wack. Looks like someone watched Pose recently. She listed black artists that she copied from. Madonna and Big Freedia should collaborate

Making with amends with Madonna for clout. Song is still trash.
Beyonce killed female R&B
Tina Knowles should have swallowed.

Looking forward to her permanent retirement.

Whitney and Mariah were most definitely hated on. Ironically both for. It being black enough
*not being black enough
