Brittney Griner Transfered to Russian Penal Colony

Last month a Russian court rejected WNBA player Brittney Griner's appeal of her guilty verdict for smuggling THC oil and vape pens into the country [click here if you missed that].

Now Griner has been transferred to a forced labor camp...

American basketball player Brittney Griner, jailed in Russia in what the United States calls a wrongful detention, is being moved to a penal colony, her attorneys said Wednesday.
"We do not have any information on her exact current location or her final destination," her attorneys, Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov, said in a statement.
Griner, a center for the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team, was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport in February, after Russian authorities said they found vape canisters with cannabis oil in her luggage.
The 32-year-old was sentenced to nine years in prison in August, and that sentence was upheld by a Russian court in October after Griner's lawyers appealed.

Her lawyers have been ineffective at every turn. I truly feel bad for her.

I kinda feel bad for her too. She didn't murder or rape anyone. It's just a pipe. It is obvious they just want to make an example outta her. I hope it worked. These Americans need to realize that most overseas countries do not like us. Travel with caution.

@9:48 FOH with the cynicism. It speaks volumes to your character.
Its time to Sadam Hussein this lil prick Putin.

Slavery is alive and well. They saw her tall muscular physique and put her straight to work.

9:48. More like working in a sewing factory for 17 hours a day. Depends on where they send her but all those labor camps have inhumane conditions.

Praying that Brittney mentally, spiritually and physically survives this. You can say what you want but not one of us would want to be in a foreign prison in a country that hates us. Praying that Brittney comes back whole and not broken.

The alphabet community is quiet!

This isn’t about “the alphabet community”. It’s about ignoring State Department warnings and getting caught up in an international stalemate.

GLAAD has released statements about her situation. What tf else do you want them to do? She is on another CONTINENT and everytime someone tries to help the Biden Administration says to not get involved.

If you have the IQ of a dead turtle then just say that.

This is about breaking the law, in a communist country no less. 10:18 is right, had it been any other 0 tolerance country, she'd be on the front of t-shirts.

Trump would have had her out of there and home with family.

Yall dont wanna hear that though

Trumpf couldn't do shyt. Even his coup on the Capitol was poorly executed. Although, from one dictator to another, Putin may have complied.

On topic: I feel horrible for what Brittany is going through. As a fellow cannabis smoker, I understand how hard it is leaving the vape pen and going without weed, but, like another poster mentioned, her lawyers failed her at every opportunity. I just wish Brittany had had a stronger management and legal team behind her. Especially since she's working in international countries that don't, historically, have the best relationship with the U.S., and then you factor in the impending war in Ukraine that had been looming for several months prior to her arrival. Her team dropped the ball, but Americans shouldn't have to pay the price for her freedom.

I'll say an extra prayer for her well-being and safety, but, athletes, celebrities, and non-famous folk alike, need to be aware of their surroundings and have a basic understanding of international relations and international laws.

Meanwhile, the legal use of cannabis or reduced penalties for possession or use appears on ballots around the nation and is usually approved by voters.

@12:29 PM ...πŸ’―THAT PART!!! By the time she is released recreational cannabis use will be legal in all states.

She is 32 years old now. In 9 years she will be 41. I hope she gets out sooner to continue in the WNBA.

@10:15 Everything you said. I pray for her every day. If she can hang on and not be broken in her body, mind, and soul... People have their opinions about her life and the fact that she was in a country that has no tolerance for "drugs". It could have been a brazen move on her part, or she could have forgotten. I don't know and don't care. That being said, nobody should break the law and particularly in these kinds of countries.

Brittney is an American. She is somebody's child. I don't gloat in her adversities. See, life is short and it doesn't take long when you are smiling at somebody else's downfall, that you may meet your own calamities. If you have children, they may not be in a foreign country facing trouble, but just know they can mess around and face life in this country-no matter how well you have reared them.

I will continue to pray for her. It's her humanity that I have seized on and I'll let God judge her as He will do for me.

Now, she will know what is really required of a man.

If you don't like what I have to say let's see you get her out of prison. I just stated a fact. Any simp with a corn cob kernel of a brain knows you don't travel with NO F*cking drugs. Not even state to state in this country. Look at what happened to Eric Andre. Know what you're talking about before you come for me Seed-dra.
Now go to your nearest congressman and speak for her release.
She would have been out if we were not suppling Ukraine with artillery.

This is for whoever keeps inappropriately using the word "simp" on this blog.

According to Urban Dictionary : Simp

Someone who does way too much for a person they like.

Brian the simp: I bought her a car and a whole ass house and we not even dating!

Nathan the pimp: U a simp.

Only people who don't season their chicken would mistake "simp" as a nickname for simple to use the word on every post in the comment section of an urban blog

Trump would’ve had her out before this hit the news! Don’t worry he’ll be back in office soon 😊. The gheys & the Dems quiet on this one. How about that red πŸ”΄ wave 🌊!

Why would we be mad? Lol there was no "red wave" and the Democrats flipped a major seat (Fetterman); not to mention, they elected the first 3 black women into the Senate. Where's the loss? Lol. Going into 2023, the Democrats will control the presidency, the house, and the Senate - thanks to Republicans - and their bigotry & their sexism - Thanks, again! We can't wait to federalize marijuana, abortion rights, gay rights, and the lowering of prescription drug costs - thanks to Republicans and their complete disregard for democracy and decency.

This is just awful news. She'll hang in though, but none of us even want to imagine what this could be like. Praying for you girl. Damn...

To everyone commenting about U.S. laws, stop. They have their laws and we have our. The sooner you all realize this, the less likely you will be to end up in a situation like Britney!

I really wish she would've given more thought to traveling with that stuff. Man I wouldn't wish this on anybody. Her career's over, her family will be without her for a few years. I say few because I'm hoping she won't do all 9.
