Fantasia Returns to School

Singer Fantasia Barrino, who famously dropped out of high school in the 9th grade before winning American Idol, is returning to the classroom...

Fantasia obtained her GED in 2010 and walked across the stage with a North Carolina high school class and last year she was inducted into Sigma Gamma Rho [click here if you missed that].

On a recent live stream on Instagram Fantasia announced that she has enrolled in college.

Good on Fantasia. I hope she does well and encourages others to continue their education.

To her credit, this is the kind of growth that a good man brings to a woman's life. Happy for her.

Go, girl. You can never get enough education.

I am not knocking Fanny, I am proud of her attending school. You go girl and continue to learn. However, there is blatant hypocrisy when it comes to joining frats/sororities. I don't believe in the so called divine 9 because I am anti idolatry, but I'd be offended as heck if I had to suffer to join and go through humiliation rituals just to see a celeb without the required education requirements be ushered right in just because she's famous. So if you are uneducated but famous they disregard the college requirements and usual stuck up standards they claim to have for membership, but not if you are a regular citizen. That's bogus.Poor girls and boys cry and suffer to join, and some never get in, but if you are a celeb, they ease you in even if younhave zero education. How is that fair to the process others endure? It's very disingenuous. It's just like seeing rappers and singers being given honorary doctorates after schools failing so many students who struggled, cried, and went into debt for that piece of paper. Society is so phony and hypocritical. It's not the celebs fault, it's these bogus institutions. That's why I laugh whenever I see The Three Stooges episode of them posing as professors. They knew it was bull too. Lol For instance, every university REQUIRES that professors, especially those seeking tenure, have at a minimum a doctorate degree. However, Maya Angelou never even attended college and was given like 20 plus doctorates and a permanent university position. So how can I believe in a system with double standards and hypocrisy? I can't. Only thing respected on earth is MONEY.

This woman has gone through so much negative in her short life and kept it going. She is such a talent and could be right up there with the best. All she needs are hit songs.
I am elated to hear she is going back to school. Love Fanny and wish her all the best.

@8:58 well get ready to spit out your coffee because I've got some tea I'm still trying to digest
Agreed with every word you said. For a while, I've been debating getting an advanced degree and it ain't what it used to be. For instance, competency based curriculums, like what WGU has where you can take an exam and earn credits, now have made it extra easy to get a degree. WGU, some other universities and community colleges, use something called Saylor (dot)org to take certain exams. The cost? Last year it was $5 per exam. Yup, less than a decent burger.
Back to topic. I'm curious as to what event led to Fanny making this decision. Whatever the reason, I hope she has a good support system for when things get tough. I know people were side-eyeing her marriage but maybe he's really good for her.

Proud of Fantasia and I hope she can be a shinning example that education is a possibility for anyone who wants it.

I hope she does well but when you say that you can barely read and you're trying to do college work...that's hard. Unless she has someone she's paying doing her work. I guess her sorority sisters encourage her to go to college and maybe they will help her with her work.

Good for her!
8:58 Sometimes celeb inductions are needed. Some need/want associated Celebs to expand their exposure and even their existence to those who may have never heard of them.

Good for her! Money from the music business must not be cutting it for her. It’d be an even smarter idea if her convict husband would enroll himself into college too. JMO

I guess her Sorror’s helped her understand that she needs to represent their brand in the most proper way. They probably don’t want to be known as the only one’s with an illiterate and uneducated member running around loose in these streets! IJS.

It’s a good thing nobody cares about your opinion @8:58, because you sound mis-informed, and low-key thirsty to belong.

Any chance a person of color decides to advance themselves IN LIFE, just encourage them. Who cares how she came to the conclusion!

Damn, we can’t be happy for anyone can we?

I’m happy for her! The growth is beautiful to see! Go Fantasia!
