Byron Allen Interested in Purchasing BET

This week it was revealed that Tyler Perry was in talks to purchase BET [click here if you missed that].

Tyler has some stiff completion, because Detroit native Byron Allen is also interested in purchasing the network...

Other parties are also said to have expressed an interest in the BET businesses.
Another potential suitor is Byron Allen, who controls a number of local TV stations as well as The Weather Channel and other assets via his Entertainment Studios firm. “Byron Allen is interested in buying BET, and he will be pursuing the acquisition of the network,” a rep for the mogul says.
The sources added that if a deal closes, Paramount expects to maintain a minority stake in the business, as well as a commercial relationship.

He should fix his TheGrio web site first. Good info but it’s a junky mess.

I just want to watch newscasters like Tiffany Cross who can irritate the fuc out of Fox News. Fox News loves to play the race card and they go crazy with it when Tiffany points her spotlight on racism. Just get us some real Black people delivering real Black news.

Where is someone like George E. Curry when you need him?

That would be nice, especially if he can make the programming consistent.

I love to see two wealthy black men compete for ownership over a black network. Proud moment. With that said, I think one of them needs to purchase Bounce network and whatever other network is broadcasting black content; we need to take full ownership over black music, black content, black media, and black culture; we can't continue to allow our culture to be capital gains for non -yt entities; and while we're discussing black ownership, Tyler Perry and Byron Allen need to look into buying all the black natural haircare companies like Mielle, Shea Moisture, and Cantu; I just recently found out that the most popular hair care products are owned by non-blk companies like Proctor & Gamble. We need to start buying up any and all companies that we primarily consume.

It would be nice if BA could own these platforms and everything blk but when he’s gone, his wife will own it all. When his kids marry who they’re gonna marry (likely not blk like their dad), do you still celebrate this ownership?

@ 10:24 I totally feel you on that. What will the legacy be? But I hope he does get it. BET already feels like the TP Channel as is. We def need more well rounded content.

Black people should demand TP not do the coonery on BET.

Byron Allen's experience with programming is garbage. You'll only see 3rd rated shows with at least 30 minutes of commercial. I hope Tyler Perry has enough capital to make the purchase. Not only because he's allowed BET to get back on the map but he's also earned it. Good luck Tyler and God bless.

@10:24. Thank you for the reminder on who BA is.

@10:42 TP can’t survive without the coonery. That’s like asking Bozo not to have big feet. Just ain’t gon happen.

I dgaf about who Byron Allen is married to. Take BET into a better direction. I detest Tyler Perry's content. He keeps the lowest for of blackness at the forefront where they do not belong. You know what, I don't watch BET anyway. Do as you wish.

I don't watch BET either, but I did turn in last week to see MaryJ's new talk show. BET and Bounce both have too many commercials. I fall asleep in between commercials.
It really doesn't matter who gets it because the article says Paramount will own majority share. Yt man not going to let you get but so much control. We just can't get past that glass ceiling.

Wasn’t it Robert Johnson who did get past that glass ceiling? It just turned out, the ceiling had a good price and he took it.

Yeah, Ebony magazine but I'm talking about our ppl in general have a hard time owning 100% because Yt's want to own most of what we do. They know we are creative and start new trends. They want to own us lock stock and barrel.

@12:07 They don’t necessarily want to own us anymore, but they do want to make money off us.

@12:07. You are so right. Black Voices, Africana, Roots were all websites started by Black people for Black people and then YT (or people on their behalf) purchased the websites and either dismantled them or they changed them so they were acceptable to YT. You can’t even find a trace of Black Voices or Africana ever being on the internet.

People will do anything to erase Black people or to see us fail.

And still we rise. (Maya Angelou twisted a bit)

9:59 AM Totally agree with you.

Another Negro who loves to claim love for all things Black but marries white. And yeah it matters because them off-white kids are unlikely to redistribute their wealth back to Blacks via marriage, maternity or paternity. But keep on not caring. You see what happens to Black coffee when you add cream, right.
