Billy Porter Cast in James Baldwin Biopic

Billy Porter cast as James Baldwin in a big screen biopic produced by Bryon Allen...

Pose star Billy Porter is set to play James Baldwin in a feature based on the life of the legendary novelist, essayist and activist for Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures.
Porter and Dan McCabe will pen the script for the theatrical feature based on David Leeming’s 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography. Broadway-trained Porter is a longtime devotee of Baldwin, having quoted from the legendary author and civil rights campaigner during his 2019 Emmy-winning acceptance speech.
The deep dive into Baldwin’s life and struggles represents the culmination of a long-held creative ambition for the Emmy-, Tony- and Grammy Award-winning performer, who is one Oscar short of an EGOT. “As a Black queer man on this planet with relative consciousness, I find myself, like James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I am because James was. I stand on James Baldwin’s shoulders, and I intend to expand his legacy for generations to come,” Porter said in a statement.

^^^ you sound like my old grandaddy with that ridiculous-ness.
On topic, Now we get to see just how good Billy's acting 7s or not😭 cuz i need him to be believable as a straight black male that talked that sh*t like Baldwin....i forget the famous person Baldwin had a fist fight with in that Paris cafe...and ya'll know Nina was his homie....
Can't wait. I hope they do the film justice!!

I’m here for this but I’m not sure Billy can pull it off. Still, I’ll pay the price for admission.

Billy is too pretty. If they made the film 35 years ago. Jimmie JJ Walker would have killed it lol

1255. Baldwin wasn’t straight. Billy’s challenge is to not turn Baldwin into a promiscuous gay man who complained about YT while he slept with them. Baldwin was much more than that but they love to put a spotlight on our sexuality and love life more than our accomplishments.

I’m definitely gonna have to see a trailer, the reviews and billy has to be nominated for a Grammy before I watch this!

James Baldwin was a force for the ppl. Seems like this guy doesn’t have the machismo for this portrayal 🤷‍♀️

Billy Porter doesn't have the acting chops for this. He's good at Broadway musicals, comedy and the like but when he's serious, it seems forced. Very lack luster. I'll stream for free once it comes out.

@1:15. O My! i never knew but I'm not surprised. And yes lets hope the focus is more on his accomplishments rather than his sexual conquests😫

@ 2:58 Baldwin was gayer than a parade.
I might watch it.

I remember I watch and old interview with James Baldwin and good grief...James might as well have had a dress on because he was flaming!!!
All James was missing was the lip stick and the purse!!
So yeah.. Billy is PERFECT to play the part...but I hope he cuts the BS and just wear women's clothes!!!

Billy is not writing the movie, so he has to play what they write.
I just never trust Black Men/Women who have Yt partners. Billy and Byron etc. I need my black ppl who tell black stories to be all the way black to the bone.

Send all the gay men to Mars. Let them truly enjoy each other. Leave us heterosexuals alone.

I hope he don’t have James Baldwin character in no dress cause James didn’t wear no dress. No he didn’t.

No, Billy isn’t writing the film, but he can make objections. He does not have to just sit there and act a fool like Viola Davis did in the First Lady series.

I’ll watch anything on JB so I hope Billy can act at this level

@2:15

Check out Billy's performance in Pose - when his character struggles with HIV - baby, his performance had me crying so hard with empathy and compassion - Billy can ACTd! I never really watch his performances before Pose, but he made me a believer that he can do it ALL! Don't sleep on that brotha.

5:36 he was playing from experience. James was about tje ppl’s struggle and was bold and powerful. This man here and effeminate and sassy. hmph it would be an honor for him but could he live up to forthrightness of Mr Baldwin?

Bring it... Baldwin was as flamboyant as he was brilliant Porter gonna kill it.

Just because they are both gay doesn't mean it's a good fit. Billy is a modern day minstrel for liberal left YT America, but Baldwin was a very intelligent and proud black man who fought hard for black people. It's not a good fit. Baldwin was against emasculating Black males despite the notion of Black gay men being girly. Anyone who really knows Baldwin knows his position.

Billy is an excellent actor and he’s extra enough to pull the huge personality that James Baldwin had to life on the big screen. Congratulations to him! @6:34 I didn’t know that about James Baldwin so thank you for the education!

It will take a leap for Porter to stifle his gaiety. Baldwin wasn't flamboyant.
