Diddy Addresses Liquor Brand Drama

This week Diageo liquor brand announced they were parting ways with Sean 'Diddy' Combs after he filed a lawsuit accusing them of using discriminatory marketing tactics for Ciroc Vodka and DeLeon Tequila [click here if you missed that].

Diddy's attorney addresses the latest turn of events...

A statement from Diddy’s attorney John C. Hueston released today reads:
“Diageo attempting to end its deals with Mr. Combs is like firing a whistleblower who calls out racism. It’s a cynical and transparent attempt to distract from multiple allegations of discrimination. Over the years, he has repeatedly raised concerns as senior executives uttered racially insensitive comments and made biased decisions based on that point of view.”
He added, “Diageo even acknowledged the problem by agreeing in his contract to treat DeLeon the same way it treated their other tequila brands. He brought the lawsuit to force them to live up to that contract, and instead, they respond by trying to get rid of him. This lawsuit and Mr. Combs are not going away.”
The partnership between Combs and the Diageo dates all the way back to 2007. Plus, the music icon’s Combs Spirits reportedly accrued nearly $1 billion over its 15-year affiliation.

Major L for Diddy the Dickler... Ok, $1B in sales over 16 years. How much "net profit" was made off those sales? If the numbers were still hot both parties would still be romancing each other and this would be a non-issue. Consumers move on to the next. Why would Diagio keep pumping marketing dollars into brands that aren't moving units like they used to? No different than the record biz. But of course he gone cry racism thinking he'll get a fat check cut on the way out. Since black folk love them some liqua but don't have any global distribution ownership he prolly shot his load and won't be able to find another major to pick up those yesteryear liquas. Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do!
