Kevin Hart Raises Eyebrows with Comments About the Hood

In a video clip circulating online comedian Kevin Hart claims people from the hood are not smart enough to have bank accounts...

Kevin made the remark in a conversation about financial literacy with CardoneCapital CEO Grant Cardone.

“If you look in the hood, there’s liquor stores and check cashing places. You know why? Because they know the people in the hood aren’t smart enough to open up bank accounts. They’re gonna get a check, they gon’ cash it, and it’s a liquor store right next to it,” Hart said.
“Let’s just put that around them. Let’s also put a bunch of s–t that’s easy and cash available,” Hart continued. “We don’t want you to gain credit. We want you to be cash-driven. That’s how we keep the poor poor. It’s not until you understand, that you get out.”

Instead of getting out why don't you go in? Go in and invest in what you don't see.

It's easy to stand outside and complain. Let's see you go inside and make a difference.

I’m starting to get aggravated with the perpetual state of victim hood we as black ppl have we gotta stop blaming others and stop acting like this information is not available to us if you got a phone you have a handheld computer no one is making them cash their checks and walk around with bad credit! It’s a choice! We just gotta stop with all the excuses and get some action it’s not the celebs responsibility either to give us anything or do anything for us. Start building for you and your family it starts there!

Kevin Hart talks entirely too much. He's always talking about some ish he knows nothing about. Say less. Seriously. You're a comedian, not a counselor. Go try to be funny and STFU.

He's right! The proof is in all the comments written across social media since he's made these statements. I've watched so many financially illiterates making the most ridiculous statements. Even down to how cash checking places are good for the community and banks have too many fees. SMH! Checking cashing places have some of the highest and exploitative fees. Banks only charge extra fees when you're irresponsible or go outside of their networks. Train yourself to build wealth and allow your money to work for you. A couple of years ago, black people were encouraged to become more financially sound, starting with increasing their credit score but what did most of them do? They either created bogus credit repair businesses or used them and paid outrageous amounts of money for nothing. When they could have gone to amazon and purchased a book on credit repair. Get it together!

Dang. Now I am going to have to go to the suburbs to get a bottle of Hennessy.

Sit down Kevin. Read the Torah. Get some understanding.
Or else, perish with the gentiles.

People, people... there's no reason to get mad because Kamikaze is going to wipe his bank account clean the minute he can't pay his cleaner. Remember that car accident from a few years ago?

And while there are some that still use check cashing places or refuse to open an account, there's one big point this tone-deaf gremlins is missing.

Many who live in the hood aren't dumb or poor. Many are doing OK or not struggling the way others tend to think. Often, they would rather live amongst people that look like them instead of trying to fit into the burbs. And there's quite a few of us who don't wear our bank accounts outside.

Unless a person has spending issues or is super deep in debt (watch those student loans), getting finances together isn't rocket science. There's a ton of free financial literacy resources online and in most public libraries that give better insight than some sellout comedian who was barely funny but managed to land on the right couch.

Ok Kev. So lets say you're right.

What are YOU doing to change this scenario?

If you arent trying to help the matter....stfu with all that chatter.....

Some people that complain about banking can't, don't, won't take the time to educate themselves on basic financial literacy, or don't use banks because they don't know how to.

I wonder if people realize that some check cashing operations are actually owned by banks?

Pawn shops are not banks.

Liquor stores are not banks.

Use direct deposit whenever and wherever possible.

Get renters insurance. It's cheap.

Hmmm. He’s right but then again most people who live in the hood live paycheck to paycheck and don’t see the point in having a bank account. Check cashing is their best option. Those who were able to get better jobs and move out of the hood do get bank accounts. It’s really about the hustle. That’s why you have to not listen to your hood buddies that aren’t trying to elevate. They can be a big factor in you going after your dreams.

I don’t know. I’ve seen hood boogers waiting on the opportunity to steal from someone else coming from the bank. While he’s right about the liquor store on every corner and/or next to a bank, there are way too many other scenarios that prevent people from getting a bank account.

He needs to Clarify the'WE' in "We don’t want you to gain credit... want you to be cash-driven....keep the poor poor." & WHY 'They' Want to Keep Poor People Poor & Cash-Dreven w/ No Credit.

@1202

Your writing style is dizzying. Your shift key has to be worn out.

@240. Idk how you read that mess. I just skip it as soon as I see the initial caps and go to the next comment.

It’s just semantics…he used the wrong words. They’re not all dumb in the hood, plenty can be smart, intelligent, and savvy enough to learn anything. It’s their exposure that is lacking because it’s no where around them to pick up or even gain the awareness, especially when their “culture” uses or shows none of that. No public school teaches that and those parents are more likely to pass down what they know and don’t know.

Open an account for what and end up looking like Wendy Willians with her money frozen or all of the people who have been experiencing their money disappearing during a bank glitch? Soon Americans will wake up to no money.People in the hood are not dumb at all. If you are living check to check then you'd be a fool to place your money in their.

If you owe money to someone it can be confiscated from a bank. That’s the main reason people cash their checks: to keep their money out of the hands of debt collectors.

Sounds like another rush card set up. Please stop!!!

Yall are trashing banks as if Cashapp and Rushcard havent had their own "hiccups".

Who tf is still going to check cashing places anyway? Walmart will accept most checks and their fee is waaay less than the check cashing spots.

People in the hood dont travel anywhere. So of course they dont mind waiting by the mail for a damn check. Personally I need direct deposit because I'm always on the go.

Who gets physical, paper checks?

Just because this midget has a Chase commercial don't make him a Guru of finance. When his @ ss was broke he was doing the same thing. Now he pays Yt investor to handle his money. Take the clown suit off simp.

Anonymous said...

I get what he is saying, but it’s not people in the hood…it’s people who don’t truly understand that the broke people really fund everything by paying high fees, high interest, high rent, etc. The financial system is set for those who have money and the means…to keep it. Those with good credit pay lower interest rates. People who have money, the bank pays them (in interest) to keep it in there. Meanwhile, a person with bad credit, living paycheck to paycheck is paying someone to convert their paycheck to cash, is paying a high interest on a car loan, is paying high interest on any credit cards, had to pay an extra security deposit for their apt, and so on. It’s not until they change their mind about money that you take care of whatever obligations you have first and then go get the 3 lbs of crab legs via door dash.

He really needs to sit down. The biggest problem is predatory lenders. Rep. Maxine Waters in California has been complaining about these “lenders” in our neighborhoods for at least 20 years.

Predatory check cashiers set up shop in our neighborhoods and banks set up shop in grocery stores in YT neighborhoods to make it convenient for them to use banking services when they shop.

One can bank online.
