Idina Menzel Admits Interracial Component Effected Marriage to Taye Diggs

Actors Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel were married for 10 years and share one child together.

In a recent interview Idina admits being an interracial couple put pressure on their marriage...

It’s been nearly a decade since former Broadway power couple Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs first separated after 10 years of marriage, and Menzel recently opened up about the more complex reasons for the pair going their respective ways.
“The thing that came into play more, I would say — and [Taye] has talked about it too — is the interracial aspect of it,” Menzel told friend and colleague Jesse Tyler Ferguson over candid conversation and a meal on the Modern Family star’s podcast, Dinner’s on Me.
The actors first met while working on Rent, which debuted on Broadway in 1995, and were married in 2003. The Frozen star went on to explain that differences in race, ethnicity and sexual orientation didn’t have an impact within their theater cohort.
“We all love each other and sleep with each other,” as she put it, adding that things changed drastically out in public, away from that tight-knit inclusive space.
“[Taye] was on the cover of Essence, and Ebony, and being interviewed by all of these Black journalists, and I think he had his own stuff to deal with, with that,” Menzel shared. “And it seemed like there was some disappointment in the community with him, because he was married to a little white Jewish girl. And so I took that on too.”

Blame his team! They were selling him to the black community, specifically, black women and then he shows up on the red carpet with a white woman. It was shocking to many of the black women who considered him a heart throb and they felt misled and disappointed.

Jewish parents didn't like your marriage to a black man either. Get real girl.

Sometimes these white girls don't know what they are really getting into marrying Brothas. All they see is that big d**k energy and want that Mandingo loving. Then reality sets in.

Little Jewish girl? How bout a white woman, we don't care what your religion is and it's not a race. 9:34 is correct don't pose on the cover of black women's magazines and star in only movies geared toward black audiences if you have a preference. Get on the cover of People and play in white movies than nobody will be confused. But the problem is white people weren't interested in this negro.

I like her. She’s been really straightforward in how she dealt with this. Taye eventually dumped her and broke her heart, but what else can you expect from a slimebucket.

I don't like the matter-of-fact way that she describes black audience's perception of her marriage. I always find it interesting how interracial couples (involving blk partners) always project issues of acceptance from black ppl. As if yts/Jewish/Asians/Hispanics don't hold those issues. I'm sure her Jewish community was less accepting of Taye and their son, because of their African lineage. Additionally, black women audiences felt duped on who Taye was advertised to be; a proud black man who loved black women. If Taye took issues with how he was marketed (in regards to black women and black publications), then he should've revamped his PR team and made it clear to them that he didn't want to be pigeonholed into someone he wasn't. As opposed to making it Indina's problem.

I'm glad women like her are able to bag fellas like him. Keep him out of our dating pool.

Taye (aka Too Short Jr.) was marketed to Black women because he couldn’t get a foothold with mass audiences. There’s something smarmy about him. I think Adina was used to hanging with theater people who don’t pay much attention to interracial marriages.

What 10:07 AM said. Other races and White folks especially always wanna point the finger at Black people when it comes to the demise of interracial relationships. Yet they never address the other side rejecting the Black person. That's why Black folks who feel duped by people like Taye and Laurence from Insecure and Ghost need to learn to stay quiet and just divest without all the hoopla.

I think a lot of black women have the same problem as a lot of white men--they see the opposite sex of their race as a possession. Black men do not belong to black women and white women do not belong to white men. That's just how it is living in a multi-cultural society like America. White American men get them a Ukrainian woman all the time and bring them over. If you want a black man and can't find one go to Nigeria. Nigerians are the most educated immigrants in America--bar none. Stop selling yourself short by competing for the same black men as every other single chick out there. Get one that values education and family.

When she says 'disappointment' she really means indifference. I wouldn't even recognize this thing if it was standing right in front of me, I'd never even heard of her before this so I guess she finally gets the attention she's always craved.

Speaking of 'community' don't her's regard themselves ethnically superior to all others? Bet they were thrilled when she brought him home, not.

1233 how is the “Nigerians” working for the real housewives and no black woman deserves to be scammed.

@12:33 American Black woman don’t want scammer Nigerians. Educated? They lie about having degrees they don’t possess. You gotta be Nigerian and trying to sell yourself to Black American women. The more you want us to divest, the more we won’t. The grass ain’t greener on your side.

@3:30 Just because you have extremely limited knowledge of pop culture doesn’t mean she’s not way more famous than Taye. He never got out of the “Black famous” category. She’s on Broadway and the voice in Disney’s Frozen.

Yet she dogged him about how ugly the blc woman he dated before and she was the ' the jealous' of the chick before her. Yall need to reference ' the when they got together and how'

6.13pm Oh she's so famous you can only name one animation that she leant her voice her too and she's done Broadway but you can't even name the production.
So what if she's more famous than Taye Diggs that's not exactly hard considering he's only a couple of rungs up from nonentity.

This is 12:33 PM
I'm talking real life and y'all talking The Real Housewives. I'm in the health care industry which is dominated by foreigners. I come across educated Nigerians every day. Don't be so closed minded. Just like there's a stereotype that all black American men are no good, there's a stereotype that all Nigerians are scammers. Neither are true. You have to know where to look.
