With gay being a high activity in Hollywood, I wouldn't put it pass these ninjas being homosexuals on the downlow. And the barrettes are a symbol of it.
They having fun! That's cool.
I'll say this, not all men exudes the archetype of masculinity, that doesn't mean that they are gay, just as not all women are feminine. It's clear that they both found someone that they felt comfortable with, which is each other. They're happy and clearly living their best lives in their own way!
A "man" doesn't have to be or act super masculine but he also doesn't need to walk around with his hair in ponytails and barrettes either.
