In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Tyrese claims his company locked up the exclusive rights to Teddy's life story way back in 2011 ... with Joan's blessing.
Tyrese says Joan would give Tyrese the rights to a book and movie about Teddy in exchange for Tyrese's company agreeing to invest in the projects and use his celeb status to promote them and Teddy's legacy.
In the suit, Tyrese claims he and Voltron Productions have since invested around $450,000 into the project ... which he says he's been pushing forward for nearly a decade.
Problem is ... Tyrese claims Joan switched up in 2022 and refused to extend the option on the rights to Teddy's life story.
Tyrese claims Joan's about-face caused Voltron to suffer financial harm ... so now he’s suing Joan in her individual capacity and as executor of Teddy's estate for at least $1 million in damages.

She probably doesn’t want to be tied to his antics. He was cool during his Cola days but he definitely let fame go to his head. I seen him in a vday concert with Brandy and a few other acts and he was just extra, and so late we left during his performance.

Honestly, I never thought Tyrese was that strong of a vocalist anyway. I mean, he's decent. But he's not Luther or Gerald LeVert.
I would rather see a biopic done on Sam Cooke than Teddy. No offense to Teddy, but I think Sam has a better story. I'd like to see the conspiracy theory angle explored and how his music was stolen from him and still provides income for the thieves to this very day. I think Marlon Wayans would do the part of Sam justice.
If he owns the rights, he owns the rights. Let’s get this done. Oh and yes a Sam Cooke movie would be great but who could play Sam Cooke anyway?

Sounds like she's just not renewing the agreement beyond the specified time frame. Noone owes you more time. It's like a record label who gives X amount of time for you to produce a record but they don't owe you beyond that. Is he mad about her not extending the agreement?

Wise lady. She finally came to her senses and realized Ty (while talented) is not the best choice for Teddy. They need to find somebody more compatible. Who cares if he can sing or not? A biopic should be using original vocals anyway.

He doesn't have a case. The deal was with an option. She is not extending the OPTION... meaning Cryrese had a certain amount of time to do a book or a movie. If not, then the rights would revert back to her. He delayed and delayed and didn't do sht with the rights in the allotted time. The rights to TP's story reverted back to her. He asked her to extend the option time and she said NO you crybaby btch. I'm GLAD you took too long. Ion't want you anywhere NEAR TP's story. LOL
