Colman Domingo Cast as Joe Jackson

From Variety
Fresh off receiving his first Oscar nomination, Colman Domingo has been cast as Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson, in the Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic “Michael.”
The casting announcement comes after the news Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar would portray the King of Pop, with 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi tackling the singer during his early days.
“It’s exciting to do it with Jaafar,” Domingo tells Variety exclusively during an upcoming episode of the Awards Circuit Podcast. “Jermaine Jackson’s son is playing Michael, and he is breathtaking, and I think Graham King, the producer, has assembled an incredible cast.”
He adds in a statement: “I’m excited to be a part of a film that explores both the complicated soul of the legendary Michael Jackson as well as his impact on music and culture as a global icon. Not only am I fortunate to have a rich, complex and flawed character to portray in Joe Jackson, but I also have a front row seat for Jaafar’s incredible transformation.”
A complicated figure in the Michael Jackson legacy following multiple allegations and stories of mental and physical abuse during the pop singer’s childhood, Domingo’s casting as the talent manager of the Jackson 5 will be one that will build excitement surrounding the film.
A best actor nominee this year for his portrayal of civil rights leader Bayard Rustin in George C. Wolfe’s “Rustin,” Domingo has also been nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics Choice and SAG nom for his work. In addition, he also starred as the monstrous “Mr.” in Blitz Bazawule’s musical adaptation of the Alice Walker novel and 1985 film “The Color Purple.”

Not another MJ movie. I won't be watching. We know the beginning , middle and end. Enough already. Just like Oprah with slave type movies then the remake of the color purple.

Colman Domingo is the truth and I know he's going to encompass everything he needs to bring this role to life. I can't wait!

Good for him.

Two things can be true at the same time: 1. Colman Domingo is being groomed by Hollywood because he’s open about his homosexuality which makes white people feel comfortable. 2. Colman Domingo is a talented actor with exceptional range, he deserves all the acting work that comes his way.

He's been brilliant for years. You all are just discovering him.
The MJ movie can't be any good because no one will tell the truth. In her bio LaToya said Joe molested errybody, boys & girls. She took that back when the family rose up against her.

It's so funny how the only Black men in Hollywood that are allowed to "come up" these days are either gay or YT/lighty woman adjacent. For example, Sterling K Browne is married to a GORGEOUS sista and yet he seems to have to work really hard to get the same level of attention as other actors with the same amount of range and level of talent.

I’m not here for tethers, white or mixed actors playing Black Americans in cinema. I won’t pay to watch this. I’ll watch some clips of MJ nephew on YouTube sometime. I enjoy Colman Domingo’s acting. But, not playing Black Americans. Michael wasn’t a make believe character. He was an actual Black man from Gary, Indiana (ADOS)

^^^Colman is from Philly what are you talking about?

Coleman is not the problem. The problem is they are acting like Michael didn’t have nappy hair and a big nose. This project is garbage!

6:47 he’s from Philly but his parents or/grandparents were immigrants. He’s not ADOS.
