KeKe Palmer Considers Ditching Hollywood

Actress KeKe Palmer is looking toward a future outside Hollywood...

Keke Palmer revealed in a chat with Teen Vogue that she feels she may quit Hollywood soon.
“I think the timer has started,” she candidly stated in the interview published Tuesday.
“I think [I haven’t retired] because I just haven’t felt it yet. But the timer, I know that it’s around the corner.”
The “Nope” actress, 30, clarified that she doesn’t know “when exactly” she will step away but knows it’s coming.
Palmer has spent most of her life in front of the camera as she started acting at 9 when she appeared on “Barbershop 2: Back in Business.”
She did say, however, that when the time comes and she reflects on all she has accomplished, she hopes she’ll be able to see the inspirational path she’s trailblazing for those coming up behind her.
“The main thing I want those legacies to be is [a call] to use your power for good, to use what you have to create spaces and systems for other people to thrive,” she explained.
Palmer added, “I just don’t believe in holding everything. I don’t believe in gatekeeping. I’m not a coward.”

I don't think it's a man, I think it's the industry in general- especially as it relates to being a black woman. Taraji was threatening to leave, too. Kimberly Elise also left the industry. I think Hollywood is still too racist and sexist towards black women, despite the strides that both black men and women have contributed. But leaving shouldn't be the answer, and these ladies walking away aren't benefiting the younger generations at all. All it's doing is, is making it harder for them to navigate the industry, and then, they get taken advantage of, due to lack of protection and education about the system. If Keke and Taraji really want to help the next generation then they have to create safety nets for black actresses; you have to set systems and agreements in place so that these women have the understanding and the protection to guide them. Being visible is no longer an asset. We need more than symbolism and representation, we need systems of education and protection so that we're not underpaid, and to have the ability to secure funding for projects as easily as our yt and make counterparts. That's progress. And that's what Keke and Taraji should be working towards.

I think it’s a good idea. For your sanity and health. Just raise your Son outside of the limelight. You both would be happier. You have to do it.
