Netflix Scraps Halle Berry Sci-Fi

Science fiction feature starring Halle Berry has been pulled from the slate at Netflix...

From Variety
Netflix has scrapped the release of “The Mothership,” a science-fiction film starring Halle Berry.
The movie finished filming in 2021, but it couldn’t be completed after multiple delays in post-production, Variety has confirmed.
“Bridge of Spies” writer Matthew Charman directed “The Mothership,” which takes place one year after the husband of Berry’s character mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm. Now a single mother, Sara Morse and her children discover an extraterrestrial object underneath their home. It (hopefully) leads them to discover the truth about the patriarch’s disappearance. Molly Parker and Omari Hardwick round out the cast.

It's payback for not standing in solidarity with Israel. The hollywood muscle is about to flex

The writers strike hurt post production. It'll get picked up elsewhere.

Maybe it just sucks

She has been having bad luck with her acting career. A string of stinkers has kept her off the A-list. She was doing better in the beginning. I thought she sucked as Storm. There was no range in that role. Losing Isaiah was her best movie to me. She also has a bad picker for men. I think that threw her off her game too.

No Chriaq is uninformed.

A writers strike would not hurt a film that was already wrapped on picture and in post production. Even if they were on still on set, the Director could make minor changes to the shooting script without a writer, and the Directors strike ended expeditiously and started after this film was wraped on any live action work. Pencils down wouldn’t have lasted long.

As for other delays, I suspect as many films do, they began production without all funding secured ti finish it without another injection of funds. So here’s a more informed assumption:
- They were unable to secure a bridge loan or funding to finish it after running out of runway, and Netflix wouldn’t open up the purse.
- If reshoots were required, VFX was lacking or it was testing poorly, it may not have been worth finishing.
- Also in 2022-23 there were many layoffs in entertainment. The original shepherd of this project on the development side at Netflix could very well be gone now, which will quickly drain the well of support on the studio side. New leadership cones in and reprioritizes.
- Netflix is also steeped with internal data — they pretty much know how this will perform. Studios shelve projects all the time and take losses to offset spends in other areas.Netflix is also a tech

The more you know, folks.

cutoff sentence - Netflix is also a tech company and makes decisions based on data first.

Not for nothing, it sounds like a spin off of the show extant she started in.

She canids sci-fi. She sucked as Storm’ I cringed watching her. I kept wondering “was this the first take and they didn’t tell her to do it again?” The director must not have given her any direction.

Halle hasn’t made a good movie since the great Catwoman
