D. Barnes Calls Out The Recording Academy Over Dr. Dre Global Impact Award

Over the weekend Jay Z was honored by the Recording Academy with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award [click here if you missed that].

Hip Hop journalist D. Barnes, who was brutally assaulted by Dr. Dre in an infamous 1991 career ending incident [click here if you missed that], calls out the Academy for naming the award after an abuser...

She is correct but it’s not just them society period don’t care and if we were to just break it down to the black community the black community don’t care about violence against black women especially when the abuser is a black man!!! Look at how long puffy was allowed to run amok now watch how he will be back in the game in another year or two. Notice how they blamed the victim l/ victims when it came to puffy when we all know he BEEN had a horrible reputation

What good is an apology?

Keep your foot on his neck ma'am, good for you!

Dr. Dre is a woman beater, but if he keeps making hits, black people will never hold him accountable. Sean Combs beats, rapes, and drugs women, no one cares as long as he's entertaining them. R Kelly groomed and raped underage girls and no one cared until the court case was turned into a documentary. Fabulous knocked Emily's teeth out and still made new music. No one cares about how black men behave. No one cares about the lives of black and brown women.

Yet Chris Brown can't perform let alone be invited

RKelly is the only one i really can’t listen to anymore bc his artistic expressions (e.g. his songs) were about the abuse - the girls. Yuck, that’s too far. Anybody who kills somebody, yeah, that’s too far. But I still watch Cosby Show bc I can separate Cosby’s personal disgust from his show that has nothing to do with his personal actions. No one wants his name on awards despite his accomplishments. But Miles Davis abused his wives. I can separate his music from whatever his personal life or his character was and I’ll never stop listening to him. I bet his name is on a scholarship or an award, and I can see that based on his artistic accomplishments, not his relationships. So is that ok? Did Dre admit and apologize? We don’t know if his abuse continues to this day, but he’s never been convicted of any such thing. So? Chris Brown shouldn’t still have a label on his head from something he did 10/20 years ago and maybe neither should Dre.

@Jcee FACTS!! It's not getting better. Look at how little people of color are upset. They start in on blaming victims!!

Every time I read about what he did to her I get emotional. The fact that people continue to brush it under the rug is insane. Dre is a notorious woman beater who never faced any consequences. Now the Grammys name an award in his honor. How many great black musicians have an award in their honor from the Recording Academy? Gangster rap spawned all of this garbage we get now and continues to influence young black men to kill and sell drugs. I can't think of any other art form that is so effective at destroying a community and making white executives rich. Dre is the forefather of misogyny in rap and keeps getting rewarded.

@11:32 I can't imagine telling someone who had her career destroyed because SHE was damn near beaten to death by a degenerate to let it go. Please tell us what else should be "let go" since you seem to be an authority on when victims should move on.

He will always be a monster to me.

The so-called music and movie industry, are one of the biggest traffickers and abusers of women and children, so why are folks surprised by this? These black devils are supported by white devils in their abuse of women and children. Not to worry, Mother Earth is getting ready to cull the majority of men on this planet, the youngest and most destructive species, they have been wreaking havoc on this planet far too long, and quite frankly it's time it comes to an end.

When you're healed you don't give a damn anymore. She's still clout chasing. Move on lady. You ain't dead, do something meaningful with yourself. She's so annoying. She pop out every 3 years and say Dr Dre beat me, lady shut up or get a lawyer.
