Damon Dash Facing $400 Million Lawsuit

Two weeks ago it was reported that Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash had been ordered to sell his Roc-a-Fella shares to satisfy a $800k judgment, after being sued for copyright infringement and defamation of character [click here if you missed that].

Now Dame is facing a $400 million copyright infringement lawsuit...

The documents were filed on Thursday (February 22) by Christopher Brown on behalf of photographer Monique Bunn. Brown is requesting that the courts reopen Bunn’s case of damages against the embattled Roc-A-Fella executive, claiming that the jury in the previous case didn’t fully understand the nature of the damages Bunn had incurred as a result of Dash’s alleged actions.
According to the 285-page memorandum of law, Dame Dash confirmed the value of the photographs he allegedly withheld from Bunn and knew that he didn’t properly compensate her for using the photographs the way he’d done (that is, outside of the scope of promotional purposes). For this reason, Bunn argued, the case needs to be reopened.
“The evidence at trial – which was uncontroverted – established that each photo was worth $1,500, which should have resulted in a verdict for at least $384,750,000,” Bunn wrote in his memorandum of law. “It is well known that professional photographers earn much of their income through licensing their portfolio of photographs, and Defendants’ actions destroyed Ms. Bunn’s economic prospects. The jury ignored the valuation evidence and awarded zero to Ms. Bunn.”
Fun Fact: Last year Damon Dash was cleared in a sexual harassment case filed against him by the same photographer, Monique Bunn, after a four-year-battle [click here if you missed that].
