Black Family Centered Soap Opera Coming to CBS

The NAACP partners with CBS for a new Black family centered daytime soap opera called "The Gates..."

CBS is expanding the daytime soap landscape with The Gates, the first Black-led series in more than three decades.
The network announced on Monday, April 15, that The Gates has been greenlit for a full-season order. The soap will premiere in January 2025, but the specific date and time slot has not been revealed.
The Gates will follow a wealthy Black family that resides in a “posh, gated community,” according to CBS.
The pickup order came one month after CBS revealed that The Gates was in development. The show — which is a joint venture between CBS Studios and the NAACP — will mark the first daytime soap centered on a Black family since 1989’s Generations.

It's a soap opera so let the f@#$ing stereotypes begin. Tylee Perry might be consulted, maybe producers of Baldwin Hills. I would like to think the grannies watching this, might be close in age to the older RHO? viewers, yet this is the era of remote work as well so more ages available to watch soaps.

On a good note: it would be nice to see black faces on the cover of those soap magazines in the grocery store other than that one white man with the salt and pepper goatee.

I hope they DON’T be cooning and shucking and jiving. I can’t take no more buffoonery!

How dumb. Soaps were mainly for young YT housewives who sent their kids off to daycare or left them with the nanny while they sat on the sofa eating bon-bons until hubby came home. Who asked for this? Who's the target audience supposed to be and where do these kinds of black people live? And why is it black folks either live in gated communities or the hood, are high class professionals or drug kingpins, are part of the elites or fighting to stay alive. Can they not tell the stories of everyday regular hardworking black families? They do exist you know.

The NAACP involved? Uh-oh. :( I want to give this a chance but I don't know. Generations was actually good.

I’d rather watch “THE COMBS”

Why? Most of the major soap operas were canceled years ago. Why pander to black people now? We did not ask for any of this NAACP. Clearly the NAACP does not care about black people.
