He knew of Loretta Divine because he named all of his favorite roles by her. He didn't recognize her because she wasn't glammed up.
Loretta has 185 acting credits on IMDB, plus all her Broadway work. She is mainstream and even if she doesn't usually get top billing, she is a Star.
