R.I.P. Lou Donaldson

Saxophonist Lou Donaldson has died age 98...

From News 18
Lou Donaldson, the celebrated American saxophonist who helped shape jazz, passed away at 98 on November 9. A leading figure of the “hard bop" jazz style, Donaldson blended the fast-paced energy of bebop with simpler, bluesy elements. His career spanned more than seven decades. Among his notable albums are Alligator Bogaloo, Lou Donaldson at His Best, and Wailing With Lou. He often opened his shows with Blues Walk, a smooth jazz track from 1958 that became one of his classics.
Born on November 1, 1926, in Badin, North Carolina, Donaldson was a leading artist for the Blue Note record label where he recorded both as a solo artist and a collaborator starting in 1952. His 1958 album Blues Walk is widely respected as a jazz masterpiece and its title track, written by Donaldson, is now considered a jazz standard. In 2012, the National Endowment for the Arts recognised his significant contributions to jazz by naming him a Jazz Master.
