Jonathan Majors' attempt at a career comeback has sparked outrage from his ex-girlfriend and accuser, Maura Hooper, who has strongly criticized his recent statements and efforts to rehabilitate his image. Majors, the former Marvel star, has been making public appearances, gracing magazine covers, and starring in a new film while claiming he is a changed man. However, Hooper remains unconvinced, saying that real change takes more than just a year.
Hooper, who dated Majors from 2013 to 2015 after meeting him at Yale Drama School, has spoken about their abusive and controlling relationship. She recalled a distressing incident when Majors learned about her relationship with someone he knew a year after their breakup. According to her, he shamed her for having an abortion—one he had encouraged—and told her to kill herself.
“The level of anger that I experienced from this man, I don’t know you exorcise that from your life or your behaviour in only 52 weeks,” Hooper told the Associated Press. “People go to therapy for years. I went to therapy for years after Jonathan Majors just to get my mind back."
Still, Hooper has strongly opposed Majors’ swift return to the spotlight, stating, “There is a documented history of 10 years of abuse where he calls women ‘sl*ts,’ he calls us ‘fat wh*res,’ he tells us to kill ourselves.” She added, “When I hear people say, ‘Come on, how come he can’t come back into the fold?’ I don’t know that those people understand the pattern we’re talking about.”
