The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation identified inmate accused of stabbing rapper Tory Lanez in a Tehachapi prison 14 times as 42-year-old Santino Casio.
CDCR said on Monday, May 12, at around 7:20 a.m., Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, was attacked by another inmate, identified as Santino Casio, at a housing unit in the California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi.
CDCR said staff immediately responded, activated 911 and began medical aid.
Peterson was taken to an outside medical facility for further treatment and was in “fair” condition.
CDCR said Casio has been placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by the CCI Investigative Services Unit.
CDCR said Casio, 42, was received from Los Angeles County on February 10, 2004. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for second-degree mrdr, first degree attempted mrder, personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon, and inflict great bodily injury. He received 629 days of pre-sentence credit for time served while awaiting sentencing and was eligible for credit-earning opportunities while incarcerated. While incarcerated, on Jan. 3, 2008, he was sentenced by Imperial County to six years for assault by prisoner with deadly weapon of force likely to cause great bodily injury, in-prison offense. On June 12, 2018, he was sentenced by Imperial County to two years for possession/manufacture of deadly weapon by prisoner, in-prison offense.
