This was enlightening. I never knew about this specific town, but I do know that there existed many towns founded by Black people after slavery. These towns were flooded and became lakes. Also known as "lake towns" with Lake Lanier being one of the most well-known.

Vanport. Built in 110 days in 1942, Vanport was a temporary housing project and an answer …
Benson. It was founded in 1895 by Will Benson. A community of mostly Black residents, …
Susannah. It was a small farming community with a bank, sawmill, gristmill, post office....

I will always be amazed at how black Americans persevered throughout history. Love my people. If you’re into sci fi/fantasy books with a little background on our history, I suggest reading Black Borne by L.L Farmer. It’s a good series and she drops a lot of knowledge. Her other books are good reads too!

Our Black ppl have been at their strongest with society's pressures to survive. Too many of us get comfortable with nibble and bits instead of sticking together and making the same accomplishments our ancestors did. LOLO
