Chico DeBarge, an R&B singer whose musical career peaked in the 1980s and 1990s, was arrested in Burbank for drug possession, police confirmed with NBC Los Angeles Wednesday.
The Burbank Police Department confirmed exclusively with NBCLA that the 59-year-old, whose legal name is Jonathan Arthur Debarge, was arrested in the early morning hours of July 4 as he was seen riding a bicycle without the required lighting equipment in violation of the California Vehicle Code.
As officers investigated, they found drug paraphernalia as well as suspected narcotics in his possession.
Records showed there was also an outstanding warrant out for his arrest on a methamphetamine possession charge.
After DeBarge was booked on drug-related charges as well as on the outstanding warrant, DeBarge was released with a citation.
He’s scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1, 2025.
