Tyler Perry Recalls Advising Ryan Coogler on His Sinners Deal

This year there was controversy surrounding filmmaker, Ryan Coogler's, deal with Warner Bros. for the movie, 'Sinners,' because Ryan received an unprecedented percentage of the box office gross upfront, instead of being paid after the studio recoups, and ownership of the film reverts back to him after 25 years [click here if you missed that].

Tyler Perry explains how he advised Ryan in his negotiations...

Jealous much? Good for you Tyler. πŸ˜‘ He asked for advice but Ryan is juggernaut in the film industry now and doing original content. Ryan also asked for technical guidance from people who do not gate-keep the knowledge to make this masterpiece. Sure he has a good team behind him.

Tyler wants to be thought of as legitimate, like Ryan, but he just isn't.

@10:22. Tyler can work on a remake all he wants but years from now he will be remembered as the Amos and Andy of this generation.

Back in the day there were Black coons who loved and defended Amos & Andy and Kingfish just like they love and defend Medea and the other mess TP dished out. He can’t erase that.

Its has more humility if Coogler had told this story but if you dont toot your own horn who will.
TP will cause folks to not want to be around him with these $exu@l comments circling his brand. LOLO

Tyler we needed to know this because???? I see this is your way of bragging I get it. How about doing a movie NOT related to Madea that can cross over, not go straight to Netflix and do the numbers Ryan Coogler has done with his movies before you start talking.

This is a distracting, fluff story.

TP is honorable bc he shows how to build your own table, serve who you want, and what you want. Bc of him, Coogler was learning how to work the table and master the table that had always been there and exclusive to us. Kudos to all for the paths they find

Perhaps Coogler may repay Tyler by instructing him to create layered characters with stronger dialog and character arcs. Start with this.

Amos & Andy was/is funny. Like rolling on the floor funny unless you're looking at it through a white gaze. And Sapphire is a sympathetic character. It was her mother who was the crazy beyotch.

TP trying to restore his image after being outed as a predatory homosexual.

Ain’t nobody said Amos & Andy wasn’t funny. Ain’t nobody said Medea ain’t funny. That’s part of the reason they do more damage than they do good. They distract you with the humor while they make fools out of you. Enjoy your laughs.

as long as he don't try to advise coog on movie making, character development, creativity, script writing, or how to portray black women characters, he can talk all he want.

one of these people is thoughtful, nuanced story teller and lover and student of the art of film.

the other is not. and after 25 years of serving the same reheated slop, he clearly has neither impetus nor desire to become one.
