That is a Moorish style hat William Lee is wearing. These are the people that were bullying these lands at the time of Washington‘s life. Power was being transferred. This man was not a slave. He was an interpreter for Washington., Since most indigenous people on these lands spoke Hebrew.
Unless Billy Lee had the right to walk off that plantation and go anywhere he wanted, he was a slave. He might have been a slave-interpreter, but the word "slave" came first.
A Moor or not, the man was enslaved, was a STAN for the man (the Numero Uno man), and didn’t receive his freedom until Numero Uno died. And for the record, Numero Uno didn’t free any of his other enslaved laborers even after he died. Gotdam, gotdam!
He may have been a Moor but his moves were like the House Negro. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the model for the House Negro.
