En Vogue Singer Rhona Bennett Not Told About Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Performance
Singer Rhona Bennett, who joined En Vogue back in 2003, seemingly announces her departure from the group after admitting she was not told about their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance...
i have to admit i've always preferred the original "funky divas" of en vogue's original line-up. '
and i was one of those people who kind of saw rhona as a "replacement," but i feel so bad they excluded her from this milestone event!
at this point, rhona has been in the group 20+ years--probably longer than maxine & dawn combined! and they were just on tour earlier this year, so it's not like they fell out of touch with her!
EV was always my favorite girl group & i rode w/them hard, but there seems to be a lot of behind the scenes mess. that no doubt is tarnishing both their legacy and trajectory.
That's crazy because when they were at their peak, the producers were the ones making the real money. And if you remember that period, they were everywhere you wanted to be. This is why Dawn was initially making sense about the money aspect of it. Back when VIBE was on the newsstands, she did an interview where she wanted to have Diana/Mariah/Whitney's career. One thing those ladies did throughout their careers was not address the haters, which what Dawn is known for today on social media. Even those who ain't in the business anymore.
Rhona was disrespected BUT the songs they were inducted into the HOF for are the songs that she came in as a replacement to sing. That's the ugly part about not being an original member of the group. Like ole boy that came in to sing for Lionel Richie after he left the Commodores... or them new dudes they keep running through for the Temptations. AIN'T NOBODY COMING TO SEE THEM! The best scenario of the replacement singer working out is Johnny Gill because he definitely added sauce and a talented voice to the group and he's now incorporated into their tours along with the original members that came back.
And even after accepting johnny’s replacement of Bobby, NE still re-included Bobby and they both stay in to this day!! I love me some NE for it bc no other band accepted a new one and then brought back the old one to keep both, with all of them successful together and apart. They’ve had their ego issues over the years but now time and growth show them those bags for all go over their egos. Sorry for Rhona bc EV did not make hits with her so EV has always been defined as the original.
That’s great for EV if all original 4 showed up! Two of them could’ve at least communicated but ultimately, Rhona was not invited bc she was not qualified for induction.
En Vogue was not being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Salt-n-Pepa was. And for the record, when Rhona first joined En Vogue, she replaced Amanda Cole, who was not an original member. Rhona recorded 2 albums with En Vogue and kept the group together for the better part of 2 decades. People need to check their facts before they comment like they know. This was so disrespectful to her, I am done with En Vogue.
