His impact will be recognized at the 57th NAACP Image Awards, where the 37-year-old Harlem native, born Rakim Athelston Mayers, will receive the Vanguard Award for Fashion on Feb. 28 in Pasadena, Calif. The honor celebrates trailblazers who push culture forward.

They couldn’t find no one else deserving? I’m the only one who remember this man doesn’t care about what happens to black lives or activism until it was him about to get locked up? Or that Trump is in his back pocket?

@1:44 eff you…we see the bigger picture. This drug head got no one attention until he knocked Rihanna up 3 times. I like Chris Brown more. At least he didn’t leech off her

Here's the quote this gem made about his own community:

"What the f*ck am I, Al Sharpton now? I’m A$AP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist.I don’t wanna talk about no f–king Ferguson & sh*t because I don’t live over there! I live in f*cking Soho & Beverly Hills. I can’t relate.
I’m in the studio; I’m in these fashion studios; I’m in these b*tches’ drawers. I’m not doing anything outside of that. That’s my life"

^^^4:35 thank you. No matter how he tried to clear that up, his actions have always been about self, not activism, and certainly not advocating for our people. Being recognized by the NAACP is a joke.

A vanguard is someone who has achieved sustainable innovation and impact in their chosen field. Maybe I just don't know enough about Rakim to understand how he meets this standard. His proximity to people of influence and wealth along with his self proclaimed "pretty boy" status seems to be enough in this instance. A win is still a win so congratulations!

Woah I didn't know A$AP said all that! I knew it was something I didn't like about him though. I'm sure that his new handlers have told him to have a different opinion.
