From Deadline
Mary J. Blige is expanding her relationship with Lifetime with a three-picture deal to include three original films inspired by her music. Her first project has been set as Mary J. Blige Presents Be Happy, titled after her song of the same name, released in 1994 as part of her smash hit second studio album “My Life.”
Be Happy will be directed by Gabourey Sidibe (Precious, Give Me Back My Daughter) in her directorial debut, and will star Tisha Campbell (Martin), Mekhi Phifer (ER), and Russell Hornsby (BMF).
The movie follows 50-year-old Val (Campbell), a devoted wife and stay-at-home mom, who is eager to reignite the spark in her marriage when her youngest child leaves for college. Grappling with empty-nest feelings, loneliness, and growing emotional distance from her husband Ross (Hornsby), Val begins to realize that her marriage and the woman she once was may be slipping away.
Prior song titles Blige has adapted for a TV movie at Lifetime include “Real Love,” “Strength of a Woman,” and “Family Affair.” The network touts that the three prior projects “collectively reached more than 6.1 million Total Viewers on linear,” as per Nielsen.

Why is Mary out here working like she still paying off student loans????? Somebody help me because she's been in the game over 30 years!!!
Go Mary
I’m watching.
I absolutely will not be watching. Leave the filmmaking to the filmmakers.
Good for Mary.
I believe Mary has to pay that dead beat ex husband alimony each month. Mary is not bad at acting. Not sure about Gabby as a director though. I never watch lifetime movies . They are so sappy..LOLO
I don’t have lifetime but I’ll get a subscription for a minute to their movie club to watch Mary J.
@8:20 puffy did almost all of his artists wrong during the Bad Boy years. Her ex did her worse than Puffy. Long story short, acting and producing pays better.
Team MJB
She is deep in her acting bag now that the music industry is no longer lucrative. Mary has to recoup a lot of money that was mismanaged and paid out to her ex. I wonder how long until she can gain control of and sell her masters like the rest who are cashing out.
