Screenwriter Claims Ryan Coogler Stole His Concept for Sinners
Two weeks ago director Ryan Coogler won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his vampire flick, 'Sinners,' with Michael B Jordan winning Best Lead Actor for his dual role in 'Sinners,' playing the Smoke Stack twins [click here if you missed that].'
Now budding filmmaker, Nathaniel 'Billy' Sherrod Jr., is accusing Coogler of stealing his movie concept...
The concept for Sinners is pretty simple: Let's have a juke joint party and oops, the KKK vampires show. The brilliance is in the execution. Coogler took that setup and made a film incorporating the history of Black culture and white opposition and oppression. Bloody Freaks took a not dissimilar structure and made a screenplay about bloody freaks.
You forgot about the music. Our music created from our pain and liberation created all other genres of American music and has been used for good and bad. Not to mention the yt woman being a tool of the devil aimed directly at black men to undermine black progress.
Nothing is new, except the Vampire twin brother twist. This movie is a combination of many movie concepts. Would you have come forward if the movie didn't win an Oscar? If your creative then write something else.
I've been watching Vampire and Wolfman movies since I was knee high. I could't wait until the shape shifting monster transformations. MJackson loved them too. Thriller. LOLO
i sincerely hope his writing is a lot better than he comes across here. b/c his characterization of sinners as a movie starring 3 black men & a white woman as the lead is inaccurate and overly simplistic. and im not convinced.
if this is true, he needs to take this up in civil court. not the court of public opinion.

Puhleeze, ain't nothing stolen here. Coogler acknowledges being heavily influenced by Robert Rodriguez' From Dusk to Dawn, and that's where the structure of Sinners comes from. This was discussed over and over months ago in all the cinema forums.
Too many "coincidences" in the Sinners screenplay with what Nathaniel Sherrod Jr. created. Hollywood steals all the time. A lot of people are questioning the timing but this man is going against the powers that be. On time or not, it will be a losing battle or a deal will be worked out in secret. The similarities are insane. Coogler just mixed and mashed Nathaniel's work.
Ryan Coogler is not intelligent by any means and I am sorry to say this... His way of speaking is very indicative of his lack of reading comprehension. These universities have low educational bars now and countless imbeciles graduate with a paper that makes others think you are bright in nature. The dude gives off impostor syndrome all the way. Looks more horrible considering they ran with the narrative that his black teacher "inspired" his writing.

Had an acquaintance that wrote The Sweet Life (2016) and his own university professor took the story from him. Look up the Rotten Tomatoes Indie page on it and look at comments.
This stuff happens all the time in Hollywood and too many of our wise black and brown children are having their dreams crushed by sellout impostors and crooked Hollywood players.
Even if the society that Ryan Coogler belongs to protects him, the optics of this on his supposed talent and abilities are a stain. People behind closed doors will catch on to the impostor he is in due time...

DEI sympathy awards. It is amazing how the screenwriting competition for the Oscar's had more highly elevated writing, Michael B. Jordan had sub par acting compared to others in the category, and they still won the awards. Even Timothy's acting alone in that category was above and beyond.
Just read the other screenplays and you will see Sinners was not even elite. Reason why more people are tuning out of awards shows. Another drop in viewers for Oscar's Awards. Black Panther = Lion King = Hamlet. Nothing genius about rehashing and stealing the same stories. At least Hamnet did a superb ode to Shakespeare.
Randy Quaid, Dave Chappelle, Corey Haim. The list is long on those who have exposed how Hollywood gets down. Only one insane is those who ignore the truth. Why don't you go see Michael B Jordan doing all that 1 eye symbolism in pictures?
