The rumors were true. Last week word got out that Tracee Ellis Ross would not be returning to BET's Reed Between the Lines [click here if you missed that] and now we know how they're going to explain her exit...

Reed Between the Lines' second season finds Alex's (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) life in turmoil now that he's faced with an unplanned separation. He'll turn to his family and oldest friends as he looks to adjust to life as a single father without his wife as he ponders how long Carla (Girlfriends' Tracee Ellis Ross) will be gone -- and if she's even coming back.Tony Rock, Charlie Robinson from Night Court and Michole White join the cast as series regulars.

why not just find a replacement for Ross? black children already have to deal with broken homes in real life. why not at least keep the family together on tv.
How I miss the days of the Cosby show. Hell, even Fresh Prince was decent and had a nuclear family.

Damn, the Black family STAY losing. You'd think BET, being Black Entertainment, would want to portray a positive black family image/show but I guess not; instead they're choosing to play directly into stereotypes [e.g. broken homes].

This show is already struggling ratings wise. Tracee's departure is the final nail in the coffin. She is moving on to a new series on NBC. I'm pretty sure she won't be returning.

She plays a psychologist on the show. They should have said she was going on an educational sabbatical. Then if her NBC show doesn't work, she can come back. I'm a better writer than those hacks at BET. Damn shame.

Why does all of the black shows look like that? The set looks cheap...it's extra colorful and the overall color of what I'm viewing doesn't look like the other white shows. IDK how to explain it....it's like they use cheap cameras and everything. I can't watch mess like that.
I tried supporting the show too, but the story lines were so boring. And there was NO CHEMISTRY with Tracee and Malcom. It bored the shit out of me. But they should totally replace her character.

Have Mama Dee join the cast as Malcolm's mother. The story line could be that Tracy's character turned out to be a ho and ran off with a rapper, and she and Malcolm's mom never got along. But let's hear it straight from Mama Dee:

Ok the reason James was killed off is bcuz they couldnt come to an aggreement on renewing his contract and yeah off with this corny ass show.
That's stupid, BET isn't good as it is and now their one good show will be cancelled because that storyline makes no sense. They had no reason to make the wife leave, they could have easily replaced her...smh.
