Malik B, co-founder of the Philadelphia artist collective The Roots, has died...
We regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Basit. May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam and innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family in our time of mourning pic.twitter.com/NVHtb2CFWP— The Roots (@theroots) July 29, 2020

Yara7mu Allah, Malik.
Mr Abdul Basit was severely underrated as a member of The Roots, and as a MC in genral. He had some serious struggles but he was a true talent.
May The God give him mercy and peace in the hereafter.
Ooh THAT WAS FIRE!!!
R.I.P. my talented brother..
RIP, he was young what happened to him
Wonder how old he was?
R.I.P. Brother.
@11:17 he was 47 YO.
I heard he was an alcoholic at times
Damn. We keep losing these true originators of real hip-hop. I'm so sad about that. Soon there won't be anyone left to rep the realest generation of lyricists there ever was. Anyone can rap. These brothers told stories. And 47 is way too young. RIP to the brotha. #StillLoveMeSomeRoots.
Was he with the Roots on the Jimmy Fallon show?
@12:27 No. He stopped being a member around '98, though he had guest appearances on further Riots albums.
He had substance abuse problems as well as suffering from undisclosed illness because of touring (The Roots had nonstop tours for nearly 20 years and the international touring was too much for his body).
He was very conflicted, with his Islamic beliefs coupled with his addictions. I pray that he finds solace
^^^^Thanks for your informative response.
Does anyone know what he died of? 47 way too young to die!
@12:49 PM. . .
Thanks for the knowledge and I second @1:13 PM.
This hurts....I've been listening to The Legendary Roots Crew since Organix back in 92,93...Undoubtedly one of THE best Hip Hop groups...RIP Brother Malik....
