Aaliyah's Estate Rails Against Music Release

Last week Spotify announced that the late singer Aaliyah's music would finally become available for streaming [click here if you missed that].

Aaliyah's estate is against the release...

Aaliyah's maternal uncle and former manager, Barry Hankerson, has launched a new website called 'Aaliyahiscoming.com' and is rebranding his record label 'Blackground Records' touting Aaliyah classics and unrleased music.

Meanwhile her estate, run by Aaliyah's brother and mother, have released a statement calling the release of Aaliyah's music unscrupulous.

Unfortunately her life and career seemed to be guided and exploited by way too many careless, callous male handlers, to her demise. She did not deserve to go like that.

What I am reading is, the uncle is not sharing the coins with the mother and brother.

She never stood a chance in that industry, which is just a front for human trafficking, drugs, prostitution, extortion, pedophilia and murder.

They are all shady ass hell. Selling their daughter/niece to the highest producer was beyond disgusting. I hope none of them get a dime and they never rest peacefully. Was it worth it assholes? RIP Babygirl....

AMA we not getting paid so we will continue to “protect” her legacy SMH. Them Muthafuckas don’t want her legacy to continue. We can’t get her music, they won’t allow a real biopic movie to happen. They want to make sure everything stays dead and gone

@4:51PM, I couldn't agree more. I've always felt like she was either victimized, preyed on, robbed of her innocence or taken advantage of by the men in her life who were all significantly older. First it was her uncle, then R Kelly, followed by Timbaland, Jay and Dame. Yet she always remained outwardly humble, beautiful and sweet. I just wonder if she really ever overcome the effects of her demons or if she only suppressed them. Sadly, we'll never know.
