Ciara Joins the Cast of The Color Purple Remake

Earlier this year it was announced that a Color Purple remake was in the works [click here if you missed that].

Pop star Ciara has been added to the cast...

According to reports Ciara has been cast in the role of adult Nettie. Younger Nettie is being played by singer Halle Bailey.

Ciara joins Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Colman Domingo as Mister, Corey Hawkins as Harpo, musical artist H.E.R. as Squeak, Louis Gossett Jr. as Ol' Mister, and David Alan Grier as Reverend Avery.

The Color Purple remake is being produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey.

Color Purple is a classic. No need to remake it.

I was happier reading this blog when Warrior woman was in the psyche ward and not posting. Her hatefulness, love of Trump, promoting the divide and astrology are boring. She reads all the posts and copies. Now she discredits a marriage because she's bitter.

Let me guess...she's going to play Squeak.

@Niya - the only thing I can remember her being in (and I know she's done a few movies that I haven't seen) was playing herself in The Game. I guess she was okay but going at it with Lauren London's character wasn't much of a stretch.

So there must be an Oprah and Steven Spielberg clone producing this, because Spielberg's pedophile azz was executed and Oprah is at Tierra Del Fuego

Lol @ 1:09. When did all that happen?

They got the cast all wrong.. Cee Cee should play shug..Taragge should play Ciely ..Heer is not silly enough to play Squeak ,unless she is good at acting and can play a silly airhead..

How many times are they gonna remake this? Thank goodness Ava DuVernay and this new crew of film makers ain’t into making all these old-azz remakes.

Will this be the Broadway adaptation into a movie (musical)? Or, will it be a remake of the book and the 80s film? The distinction matters because Ciara can't sing worth a damn - & seeing as how Chloe Bailey is being cast as the younger version (Nettie; Ciara casted as the adult version), I'm wondering if either women will be singing or dancing - since neither can act. All I remember is, Ciara being cast in the early aughts as Patti LaBelle's daughter in "Mama, I wanna sing..." And lawd help me, that was the biggest casting failure in centuries! And Ciara had the nerve to bring her whisper singing to that role - knowing Ms. LaBelle was playing her singing mama smh.

But, it'll be interesting to see Ciara play a role where her beauty, sex appeal, and dancing / singing talent isn't at the forefront. And the same goes for Chloe Bailey; because everytime I see Chloe she's dropping it low, low, low...while perfecting stripper moves ..like Ciara...

Halle Bailey is being cast as the younger Nettie, not Chloe.

Ciara is playing the older Nettie--I just can't see it. She is terribly miscast, as that character--hell, all of them requires some depth.

How much you wanna bet they amp up the lesbianism in this one

Remember when Ciara was the queen of Crunk? Go head Cici!

Bad move on Ciara's part, stay away from Oprah! She needs you, more than you need her.

NO MORE REMAKES.
Now, I got that out of my system. Cici is no dramatic actor. How is she going play this part pregnant? She also has to take off that 100yd wig. Next let's see her get ugly and ball headed. I'm not sure she can pull it off.

Ciara must not be pregnant then...
