Kenya Barris' Sister Had Him Served at 'You People' Premier

Two years ago Blackish creator Kenya Barris filed a restraining order against his sister, Colette Barris, after accusing her of using his name to secure deals in Hollywood without his knowledge or permission and threatening to blackmail him if he didn't fund her movie [click here if you missed that].

Kenya's sister is still going hard and ruined his new movie premier by having him served at the theater...

“You People” stars Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill in what Netflix calls an “outrageous romantic comedy” with “a seemingly endless supply of family land mines.” And things got a bit explosive off-screen at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif., we hear, when Barris’ sister served him with court documents during his big moment.
A source said that after the screening, when Barris was basking in the adulation of the audience, he was surrounded by photographers snapping his picture. However, one of the seeming paparazzi skulking around was actually a process server, we hear, who hit Barris with court docs and said, “You’ve been served.”
Court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court show Barris was served at the Westwood movie theater on the night of the premiere, Jan. 17, at 9:54 p.m.
The papers stem from a legal dispute between Barris and his sister, Colette Barris.
In court docs seen by Page Six, Colette has accused Kenya of “breach of contract.”
Her court filing says that on Feb. 22, 2021, the siblings entered into a legal agreement, adding, “The parties in pertinent part agreed ‘not to communicate any disparaging remarks about each other or about any matters that led to this Agreement.'”
The papers go on to allege, “In or around June 2022, [Kenya] stated to a third party that (1) Plaintiff was a ’70-year-old no talent hack’ and (2) Plaintiff had not earned the ‘right to be a show creator’ but instead ‘ wanted to go to the front of the line.'”

...can't pick your family.

I don't care if it's family or not. She would be swimming with the fishes if it were me.

You People absolutely sucked and Barris is a color struck cuck. I didn't even finish watching it and I will never support anything else he does. And I did give Blackish a shot for like 3 seasons so I'm not biased. I even watched a few episodes of that Mixedish trash. This the same man who actually said "In 30 or 40 years mixed people will be in" (paraphrasing). So what are they now and why does it matter when that's pretty much all you cast? I hope she bleeds him dry.

You people was awful. You got to work hard to tank an Eddie Murphy movie. Kenya has a whole lotta mouth but no talent.

@12:03 You sound bitter. There nothing wrong with "mixed people being in" Nas said it a decade ago that america was "browning" but you wouldn't dare say crap about his statement. People are mixing by choice, they are starting to understand other cultures and mixing in. Get your ignorant self outta these comments, nobody needs to hear your crap, you will not win the battle, I guarantee it.

"Mixing" fades our melanin. Look at Puerto Rico, Brazil, and other countries like that. For generations they INTENTIONALLY mixed to "brighten" their nationality. Darker skin is considered ugly in those countries now when generations ago they were all dark skinned. So yes... mixing erases who WE are as melanated beings . The statement "in 30-40 years mixed will be in" is disgusting and self-hating. It is why I prefer to "stay in my lane" -- to keep us as pure possible, all things considered. Pay attention people. The reversal of Roe v Wade was for THEM to regain what they are losing - white children. We need to do the same - protect who WE are. Statistically white women have more abortions and THEY want it to stop that is why they reversed Roe v Wade. As well, THEY don't like us mixing either. Black genes are more dominate. Mixing decreases THEIR population and eventually will eliminate them (whites). That's one of reason's they're so afraid of us. They know we are the dominant race.

@12:03. I hear you loudly and clearly. I wouldn’t even give Blackish a chance. I knew from the name that it was a show about Black people that’s made for yt.

I just giggled when I heard about Mixish. Another one I wouldn’t even give the time of day.

And @2:56. Stop calling people ignorant and telling someone to leave. Ain’t nobody goin’ nowhere just because you’re uncomfortable.

@4:42 uncomfortable?? how ?? LOL clown, please. It is ignorant to think that the world will stop mixing. I am not anti-anything, but you will have a hard to think that the world wont be a big ole melting pot quicker than you think.

@Dee 4:06pm Mixing "ALSO" fades them away, you silly wabbit. This ain't the case where only one race is being diluted, and you really put thought into it, the black gene will be the dominant one!! You can mix anything with black and will look "BLACK". but the same cant be said about other races. C'mon child, think, please. America will BROWN, but the real losers will not be minorities, we will keep a good portion of who we are, the NO melanin folk, is who will will be wiped out.

5:37 you are accurate. Whether you like it or not (I hate it) but this country will be brown because more and more of your kids and relatives are mixing us all up. I cling to Black Love more than ever but the unfortunate reality is this place will be blended.
Anyhoo, I enjoyed You People. I just wasn’t sold on the couple they chose.
And KB casts mixed all the time bc he writes everything based on himself and his mixed family. Duh. Why should he stop writing what he knows for your comfort? It’s ok for you to reject biracial content and only watch all black - do you. But you don’t have to hate on him for what he uses.

I agree with the other commenters; You People was trash. Although, Lauren London did better than I expected, the script, and the writing was horrible. Kenya cannot write black! The concepts are great, but the execution is horrible. We need to invest in quality black writers. We need to start amplifying the most talented among us and the shun the shtty Kenya Barris's of the world. The film had so much wasted potential. All that awkward Jew dialogue with Jonas and Julia Dreyfus could have been cut. More Eddie/Nia dynamics. Less Jonas and his gay sidekick

You People was just a different kind of movie. I got it and enjoyed it. Lauren London will never get the parts offered to Angela Bassett, Halle berry or viola Davis but her acting was a definite upgrade here. I wish there was an actual kiss because these kinds of relationships happen more than what most people think.
Back to topic. I'll take Kenya barris over Tyler Perry and Lee Daniels any day of the week. Blackish made some excellent points early on but once it got the Cousin Oliver ((Brady Bunch reference) treatment, it went downhill. Never been more happy to see Katt Williams in a sitcom.
I hope the sister gets broken off because Kenya comes across as really feeling himself.

7:19 When you say WE need to start investing? Who are you talking about? And what money are you putting up to make this happen. The movie wasn't just about the Black experience. Umm Jonah was the co-writer. and last I checked, Netflix's CEO is a white man married to a Black woman. I guess you'll boycott then too! Y'all so ridiculously silly at times.
