Last night Chris Rock finally addressed being slapped by Will Smith at the Academy Awards last year on his historic live Netflix comedy special.

Did you watch...?

Social media reviews were mixed.

I watched it live, and again this morning. I thought it was just ok. I agree with some of the Twitter comments that it didn't pick up, pace wise, until the last 15-20 minutes. But, when he found his footing, Chris went innnnnn and it was hilarious ASF! Chris definitely should've led with the Will Smith/Jada smoke, and removed that nonsense about his daughters; it wasn't funny. I also appreciated the irony of corporate "wokeness" ; how brands advertise their charity work and support of social causes while charging $100+ for yoga pants πŸ˜† that was brilliant; I would've appreciated more jokes like that! Also, I wish Chris would've delved deeper on the Meghan Markle/Royal Family racism angle; I love how he brought everything full circle about the royals family's initial involvement with the slave trade, and Meghan's naivety. But overall, a lot of the jokes were taken from his recent tour; so, if you saw Chris on the road last year, then a lot of the jokes will feel familiar. I thought it was decent. Definitely the last 15 minutes were the best.

An amazing exhibit of intellect,

Say what you want but CR is coooooool under pressure. And in the end not only did he get the last word but he also let the world know WS and wifey are busters.

Whether you liked it or not, he delivered. In JPS Hometown.

As one of the nappy head collective: NO!

I would have sued him and made jokes about Will.

There was a time Black comedians didn’t attack celebrities and the only social issues they attacked were the ones against Black people.

Bernie Mac, Richard Pryor, Dick Gregory, Redd Foxx. They never attacked individuals and they certainly could have. It’s easy to be funny doggin another well-known person, it’s hard to be funny when griping about police killing us, or us needing laws just to get jobs because we wear natural hair (hint: Black women are not the joke on that issue). I could go on, but Chris ain’t even worth examining. I’m skipping this and am giving it a bad rating based on the clips I’ve seen.

When I see CR I'm slapping him

Not worth it until the end. The Red Table was covered with tears this morning.

It was not bad at all. Performed above expectation. Loved Markle dig. Will brought it on himself.

Anonymous said...

Will did not bring this on himself. He was defending his wife and I don’t blame him. My woman is not here for your comic relief and bullying, especially when she hasn’t done anything to you.

Chris brought this on himself. He’s went after Jada for years. Will was tired of it and he bitch slapped Chris. Chris didn’t do anything when it happened because that’s how bullies roll. Call them on their BS and they back down.

Anonymous said...

I didn’t watch it at all…. Done with folks and their Shenanigans-madness.

Sounds like this Chris, Will and Jada thing has been going on years. Now that CR has said his peace, is it over?

Anonymous said...

The sambo's act is always the same. Mock and ridicule blacks for ytees amusement - pays handsomely as well.

3:44, say what you want, but if Ice Cube had made the same joke, Will would have stayed quietly in his seat. Chris was right, it was selective outrage. Cuz folks had been talking greasy about the whole family for years, but suddenly, he wanna jump bad when the skinny comedian says something. GTFOH.

Will brought it upon himself....was it Chris who caused the entanglement? That slap was meant for Jada figuratively but he is afraid of her so he vented his anger on Chris instead.....

Anonymous said...

Loved it. The whole thing. The bit about corporate activism, playing R. Kelly music, the story about his daughters AND Will & Jada. Chris knocked that ish outta the park.

@5:58 I agree!!! That bald head joke was a recycled joke used by Billy Crystal years ago when Demi Moore played GI Jane and just like years ago when Bruce Willis laughed, so did Will. But when Will looked over and saw Jada looking at him his whole manhood got snatched. That slap he wanted to give to Jada for making him a laughingstock in Hollywood for not only sleeping with her son’s friend, but for also moving August into Will’s actual bedroom and whole house. August getting mail and nailed at Will’s home. That’s cold. It was never about Jada’s hair. If you look you can see follicles on her head, so she might have at one time had Alopecia but her and Willow both now purposefully rock a buzz cut, out of choice for fashion not necessity. Look at pictures you can see new growth and alive follicles. That cut is a choice. And That slap was for the embarrassment Jada caused by not keeping her creeping in tact, and for the lies both Will and Jada told over the years about their so called perfect marriage. Chris delivered a dose of truth about them on that special…revenge definitely is a dish best served cold. ✅

No Black women were spared. Not even his own daughters. You'd have thought Black women slapped him. Maybe he's still hurt over his failed marriage. Chris Flop will never stop dancing for the white man

Will Smith is still the man!

11:45 I think you might not be getting a clear picture. And I’m not trying to be catty or mean so please don’t take it that way. But Chris still hangs out with black people, his kids are black not mixed so his comedy is based on the life HE lives. And Like most comics, their best material comes from their own lives, and Chris’s life is still full of black people. With his many brothers, black men, and especially with and ex and daughters, black women. Dave Chappelle talks about his sons, his Asian wife and his experiences within the culture. It’s not a slap at black men or Asian women when he does his skits or stand up either, he’s just using his life just like Chris, as his comic material.

Eddie Murphy, Redd Fox, Richard Pryor, Kevin Hart, Katt Williams, and Paul Mooney all did/do the same. They all talked about black men and black women. It doesn’t mean they hate or are malicious towards us. Every comic that’s worth anything uses their life experiences and tries to make fun of things that in someway after them or caused them either joy or pain.

Will was mad at Jada for embarrassing him. Chris took a slap that Will wanted to give Jada, but couldn’t/wouldn’t.

It has been all over Hollywood for years of both of them swinging both ways, and their open marriage. And when asked about it Will and Jada ALWAYS lied making it seem like they were the picture perfect couple and bragging about their sex life to any magazine, or tv show that would listen. Chris was doing his job that night and Will even laughed until Jada gave him the death stare. He saw his “image” being tarnished and he took it out on Chris.

Will didn’t slap that Drag Queen when she asked them about moving a man that was their son’s good friend and close in age into their home and Jada sleeping with him for MULTIPLE years. Will had been made fun of in public ever since August confirmed the rumors, and Will and Jada continued to lie and say she was mentoring him, until August came out with pictures and receipts.

As a black woman I have no problem going hard for someone especially a black woman who was wronged, but Jada was not wronged, she was no victim she was/is a deceiver and took it even further by cashing in on confirming her “entanglement” on her red table talk for ratings and had Will on there shamelessly crying.

That slap didn’t have anything to do with Black Women, it was about one woman who happed to be black who was an adulterer that got exposed and trying to pawn it off on a issue that black women hold dear..hair. Hair that she now “chooses” to keep buzz cut. We all see the new growth so she is growing hair, that she keeps saying she can’t. So this for sure for me is not about “black women” being wronged. It’s about one singular black woman who embarrassed her man on a world stage over her affair, and he was pushed to the edge and flipped out, and then their PR person trying to make it about “hair” when it really was about the “affair”.

That ain’t got nothing to do with us as a collective. This is about the Smith’s lies catching up with them. They will be alright they don’t need saving, except from themselves.

12:43AM, you said everything .... nothing. else to be said.

Anonymous said...

@11:45. Black women have always been Chris’s go-to for jokes. Always. Even before Malaak dumped him.

Chris was bullied as a kid by Black and white kids, but it’s the stones from us that hurt him the most.

He’s been shucking and jiving for YT ever since he was on SNL. Chris is brilliant, but broken.

Anonymous said...

Another thing. Chris said he doesn’t fight in front of white people but he’s on Netflix. Guess we suppose to act like white people ain’t got Netflix.

Anonymous said...

12:43 LOL TLDR

Anonymous said...

Excuses excuses excuses. Chris got his @zz handed to him for being a coon. So what.

Anonymous said...

He went in on Megan and Harry. Lol!
Did he do it in their face? NO!

Anonymous said...

Ice Cube wouldn’t have slapped him. Know why?
Cause Chris is scary as h3ll and wouldn’t have said anything about his wife.

Anonymous said...

You know who openly disrespected his wife for years and not one comedian clowned her? Snoop Dog’s wife. Know why? Because Chris don’t want the smoke. Black women allow themselves to be disrespected and stay silent mammies. Now they are older it’s ‘aaawww, they have a strong bond’.
FOH! Just like Vlad asked Michael Jai White the same what if question about the slap. Who knew Michael Jai White was a comedian? Oh, he’s not! Nor would he have done a coon Chris joke about Will’s wife.

Chris love talking about women. I guess that’s what you do when you’re bullied and everyone knows you’re weak. Attack women.

Anonymous said...

I love the fact when he says, " If you think words hurt, you must have not been smacked before " says it all.

Anonymous said...

“Errybody got jokes till someone gets slapped.” Didn’t Mike
Tyson say sumptin like that?

Anonymous said...

HILARIOUS!!!

Anonymous said...

Everything is not about disrespecting black women. Jada deserves all the disrespect thrown her way. Black women should stop fighting stupid unwarranted battles like Jada's and Meghan honor.

Anonymous said...

Smith should have sparked him out cold. The little weasel hides behind 'jokes' same as that greasy slob Ricky Gervais.

Anonymous said...

I wish Chris Rock the worst. Black Hollywood will not embrace him going forward. Hopefully he's fully comfortable with the clears.

Anonymous said...

@11:23. Who is here for Meghan? Only thing I hear from Black women regarding Meg is why haven’t we met your mother’s side of the family. We wanna meet the Black people in her family but she keeps them deep under cover.

Anonymous said...

I am just confused on what a bi-sexual couple’s dirty laundry has to do with protecting Black Women???? Riddle me that Batman???? Jada been mad at Chris because he wouldn’t give up a hosting job that feeds his family because Will wasn’t nominated that year, but the next year he was, and she and Will were front and center at that SAME “white run” establishment in their fanciest designer clothes to impress with those SAME “white people” that some of you claim Chris was clowning for. SO WERE THE SMITHS.

Hypocrites at the highest levels.

Will out here dong his media sympathy with the white media, but yet Chris isn’t allowed to do the same?

Jada been living her life with other men and women she said it out of her own mouth for views on her show. And Will is no better, he was allegedly off with with his affairs, all while a younger man the age of his son MOVED completely in his house and bed. August getting mail, deliveries and sex living at the home of another man, but some of y’all don’t want to talk about that fact. No straight man is gone for years and lets another man live with his wife in what he’s worked so hard to build, especially a black man. Then they both lied about the situation and on August until he provided receipts.🧾 Will could have cared less what Jada was doing because he was doing his own thing and they became embarrassed when they were exposed. The rumors they denied for years was finally revealed as the truth. Will slapped Chris because when Jada looked at him she gave him a look of “I will expose ALL your secrets I ain’t got nothing to lose so you better do something” and that’s what motivated the slap, it WASN’T over saving a black woman because he said something about her hair, it was was all about being exposed. And yeah I’m naming Dwayne, and so did Chris’s brothers. Google it. Lies in the dark will always come into light. Allegedly, Will helped Dwyane hide money from Tisha in the divorce , while they were off living their best life together without a care, so yeah, he had some karmic retribution coming. Dwayne, Jada and Will was smiling so hard with the white folk, at the Oscars and After party. Now Will out here crying for sympathy and got his PR people out here pedaling a story of him standing up and being a “savior” for black women story. Bull πŸ’© it was a “save his own skin” slap, and Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could both see that, and one of them is gone. If Chris was tap dancing for the whites, the Will and Jada for the whites are out here doing the samba and the waltz.

You are either a fool or a blatant liar, which explains why you didn't realize Chris Rock's special was GENIUS. Comedians have ALWAYS attacked other celebrities.

ZZZZzzzzzz, so the selective outrage from this commentary is that yt people still runing ish. So stop it with this dead horse like we got it like that...All we can do is "go off" with(Spoken outrage) or "be violent" (physically) with each other. Shenanigans as usual.
