Angela Bassett to Receive an Honorary Oscar

Two time Oscar nominated actress Angela Bassett to receive an Honorary Academy Award...

Angela Bassett, Mel Brooks and Carol Littleton will receive honorary Oscars at this year’s Governors Awards, announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Honorary Award is “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or outstanding service to the Academy.”
The Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Awards. The four statuettes will be presented at the 14th annual ceremony on Nov. 18 in Los Angeles.

They should’ve just gave her one for What’s Love Got To Do With It or Black Panther. Well I guess this is okay

This is not ok, she doesn't need a hand out, she's earned at least one Oscar, and doesn't need a pity Oscar, i hope she declines.

If one begs and whines long enough...

Well deserved. Surprised Mel Brooks doesn’t already have an honorary.

Yall want White validation so bad. The Oscar is not everything
Goodness gracious

It's more than white validation. It's recognition and appreciate by one peers. I don't like this. She should have gotten it for Black Panther when compared to the competition. But, I'm with Angie whether she accepts this or declines it.

She deserves a real one x 2. Insulting giving her a pity Oscar. Keep it

The Academy knows that their voting body is biased and bogus. However, they also acknowledge that Angela Basset has EARANED an Oscar in more ways than one. This is also how Spike Lee got his Oscar.

Right they’ve waited until Mel Brooks is almost dead to give him one.

Glad she's getting her due....and yeah she could have won for her performances, but the fact that this is for her entire acting body of work thus far to me is better. Auntie getting her flowerrrsss. lol. Love it.

I actually like this better. Its for her overall career which is well deserved. Not just one movie or show, but an Icon overall.
