Jay Z Causes Bump in Library Card Holders

Last month the Brooklyn Public Library partnered with Roc Nation for a multi media exhibit honoring the life of rapper Jay Z [click here if you missed that].

The exhibit included Jay Z album themed library cards causing an increase in new library card holders...

From CNN
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, the Brooklyn Public Library and Roc Nation have released 13 limited-edition library cards with artwork from Jay-Z albums. The initiative, which ends later this month, has already resulted in 14,000 new library accounts, a spokesperson for the Brooklyn Public Library told CNN.
The library cards are tied to a Brooklyn Central Library exhibit that explores Jay-Z’s career through rare photos, original recordings, videos and other artifacts.
“The community’s enthusiastic response to this exhibition is a testament to Jay-Z’s immense impact,” Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO of the Brooklyn Public Library, told CNN.
The Jay-Z-themed library cards are available for free for New York State residents. New Yorkers can collect all 13 versions – but only one will be activated to a Brooklyn Public library account to check out resources, according to a library spokesperson.

For those ppl that will not be able to see it, they did a very good job with the exhibit. It was very crowed when I viewed it. Nothing shady to say and I'm not a Jay Z fan.

Can’t knock the hustle! Jay-Z is the Michael Jordan of the culture. Transcended multiple eras & still respected!

If skills sold truth be told

Good on JayZ.

People can use the library card at Kanopy.com and Hoopladigital.com to watch movies for free and check out books online. Good on Jay.

Can his wife read? We know she can’t put a sentence together.

I hope they provide literacy services with those library cards. Help people with tutoring and educational services.

I hope they do more than collect cards.

So it took him to inspire a bunch of people who never been to a library to get library cards with his mug on it? Whatever works, I guess.

Good move! We need to encourage reading on all levels as much as possible! I use my library card a couple of times a month. I checkout the new releases that cost $25-$30 to buy so I can borrow it for free from the library. Try it, don't knock it! #ReadingisFundamental
