Billy Dee Williams Turned Down Marlon Brando

In his upcoming memoir, "What Have We Here: Portraits of A Life," 70s heartthrob, Billy Dee Williams, admits turning down notorious Hollywood lothario Marlon Brando...

From People
Legendary actor Billy Dee Williams knows what it means to be in demand, onscreen and off.
He has indeed, including one instance which he writes about in the book, when Marlon Brando propositioned him while the two stood in the library of Brando's home where the Hollywood titan was hosting a star-studded party.
"I've been getting hit on all my life," says Williams, who credits his romantic lead roles in films like 1972's Lady Sings the Blues and 1975's Mahogany for his famous lover boy persona. "Gay, straight, whatever, somebody's always hitting on me."
In terms of Brando, Williams says he declined the late movie star's romantic offer. As for why, "I prefer women," says Williams.
"I've spent a lot of my life around gay people," says Williams. "[The late celebrated Black writer] James Baldwin, who was gay, was my dearest friend."
But when it comes to romance, as he says he told Brando, "I'm not into guys." Still, he adds, "I had no qualms with that kind of stuff. Whatever you are, that’s who you are. I’m more interested in meeting interesting people.”
What Have We Here?: Portraits of A Life is available Feb. 13.

Ugly unattractrive men are the true"phobic". Billy D knew he was attractive. He made his claim on liking women and kept it pushing, with grace, when they tried him. The ugly asf ones (inside and out) hide behind dislike/disgust 'cause ain't nobody checking, unless it romance with finance.

I can believe this. I had a serious crush on him when I was in my teens.

I wonder who didn’t turn down Brando. At one point Brando was considered one of the finest actors in the world. For a few years (before he got fat and out of shape) people used to hit on Brando left and right. This is long before the Godfather.

He had good looks, a lot of power, and I bet there are a lot of Black actors and actresses who took him up on his offer.

I’ll read the book when it’s released. Wonder if he’ll have anything to say about Diana Ross.

Marlon Brando did not discriminate and never denied having homosexual experiences.

Brando went any which way the wind blew. Deep into people of color. The love of Rita Moreno's life.

Why do we need to know this? Bring back secrets in 2024!

There was something so disgusting about Marlon Brando even when he was one of the most handsome men in Hollywood. I know he had relationships with women but I read that he was openly gay earlier in his career so all the stories of him propositioning men aren't surprising. I doubt that he had any real interest in women.

Gay people gravitate towards the arts. Most of Hollyweird is on the alphabetical spectrum. This is not shocking. What's shocking is that Williams turned him down. Didn't he say he was a part of The Community a few years back? He must've got hit on by the fat version.

@4:49 - "The Alphabetical Spectrum". OMG 🤣🤣🤣 That's a new one. I like it.

I guess that's why he beat poor ole Elizabeth Taylor. All they did was get drunk and fight. He really let his self-go after not working for years. The movie The Island of Dr Moreau was excellent, and he looked horrible. That's what made the movie so good.
Billie was handsome but limited in acting ability. He was no Denzil Washington.

No Denzel Washington??? Uuuhh, that handsome man didn’t need to have the best acting chops. He did fine in the few movies I recall as a kid. His beauty was mesmerizing.

He's a playa's playa. I love how he said: "I've been getting hit on all my life," ... "Gay, straight, whatever, somebody's always hitting on me." All day errday.

And LOLO, wasn't MJ close to Brando and Taylor? I think so.

MJ was close to Taylor. I don't recall him being close to Brando.
