Sinners Screening Set for Clarksdale

Last month residents in Clarksdale, Mississippi petitioned 'Sinners' director Ryan Coogler for a special screening of his blockbuster horror film set in their town, because Clarksdale does not have a movie theater [click here if you missed that].

Now a screening is in the works...

Residents in Clarksdale, Mississippi, may soon have the chance to watch the movie making a big splash in Hollywood.
That film is called "Sinners".
The movie is based in their town. The Mayor of Clarksdale told ABC24 that officials are working to bring a screening event to the area and host a star-studded private screening.
Community member Tyler Yarbrough wrote an open letter to film director Ryan Coogler, star Micheal B. Jordan and the rest of the "Sinners" to visit Clarksdale and collaborate on a public screening. The petition currently has over 5,000 signatures.

I'm glad that they were listening.

Wonderful and it sounds like some of the actor will show up, as they should. Love this.

Is this a Black populated town?

Yes. Morgan Freeman has a blues club there. It’s a very small economically depressed part of the Delta. Kudos to Coogler & Michael B. It’s only right.

Iv stayed in an apartment over that blues club for two weeks before discovering I hate the blues. Moved in with the mayor for a week after that until my tour bus was fixed.

That club is the then. Ain't nothing else there.

The city's population is under 15,000.

Being heard is everything. Sending love and light to everyone who is working on making this happen. It’s going to be awesome. And the ancestors will rejoice.!

How far away is this town from a metro/city with movie theaters? Do they normally drive in somewhere to see movies or they just wait for streaming? Just curious

12:27 on the petition it said they have to drive 80 miles to the nearest theater

Memphis is the closest theater and it's a hundred miles away. They should just show it on the side of a barn.

I was raised there till i was 16. Clarkdale is a predominately black town there is one high school and the theater closed in 2003. there was another one but i think it has something to do with music now. I remember when the movie Purple Rain and the Color Purple came out the whole town came out those weekend
