From People
Ananda Lewis has died at the age of 52.
The former MTV VJ's sister Lakshmi announced news of her death in a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, June 11.
"She’s free, and in His heavenly arms," she wrote, alongside a series of broken heart emojis and a black and white portrait of Lewis. "Lord, rest her soul 🙏🏽"
Lewis became well known in 1997 when she was hired to be one of MTV’s VJs, hosting shows like Total Request Live and Hot Zone. In 1999, The New York Times dubbed her “the hip-hop generation's reigning It Girl.” She left MTV in 2001 to host her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show.
Lewis revealed in a 2020 Instagram post that she had been diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. She said that she had not been getting regular mammograms because of her fear of radiation. In October 2024, Lewis took part in a roundtable discussion with CNN’s Stephanie Elam (her friend from college) and CNN anchor Sara Sidner in which she revealed that she went against medical advice and did not have a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed. Her tumor had metastasized, and her cancer had progressed to stage IV, she shared.

Listen to science people. Flat chested and alive is better than dead.
RIP Queen
Science isn't God. My cousin got hers removed and still died.
RIP Ananda 💜
prayers up 🙏🏾 💜 💜 💜
Rest in heavenly peace
Sad.
Zero sympathy for her.
She was a smart woman but let fear of keep her from getting simple testing annually. It's a shame. LOLO
Her body, her life, her choice. She will be remembered fondly. Rest in eternal peace sister.

My sisters especially the younger ones they're only breast and the don't define you as a woman. Listen to your doctors and if you need a second opinion get one. They can give you new breast but your loved ones can't replace you. I'm a survivor of breast cancer 30 something years and counting. I was very young when i got cancer if something doesn't feel right get it checked outt
@11:06 say it. I'm a 2x survivor and this is not a passive disease. Even though women like Ananda and Michelle Thomas did not make great decisions, they did bring awareness to alternative methods, which should be used with traditional medicine under a licensed practitioners care. I made the mistake of letting the internet diagnose me because I looked like I had fibroids.
Aww the 90s…I loved her so much. Sigh
@10:36 AM - And I hope there's zero sympathy for you when it's your turn to bite the dust. Crab.
Rip Sis.
Let me get breast cancer. I’m chopping these thangs OFF
10:50 AM said it all. Her body, her choice. I've seen folks die because they refuse blood transfusions (Jehovah's Witness). It's their decision. My own mother said she's dying with the titties God gave her and she's a nurse. My condolences to the family.
RIP Queen.
Women are like this. Dying too soon cause of pride

RIP. She was so beautiful. I wonder if she rejected standard treatments because she didn't want to lose her hair.
Preventable with the correct information. Too bad she learned the hard way too late. Most cancers are treated with therapies that do not require radiation.
Sleep Peacefully Ananda Lewis. Payers 4 her son
