The Yvette Nicole Brown Mentioned in Chevy Chase Documentary

Last week "Community" cast member, Yvette Nicole Brown, warned producers of Chevy Chase's documentary, "I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not," to 'keep her name out of their mouths', after it was revealed that the project would revisit his infamous on set n-word scandal [click here if you missed that].

Welp, the documentary dropped on New Year's Day and Yvette Nicole Brown was mentioned...

The actor played Pierce Hawthorne, a tone-deaf millionaire, through the first four seasons of “Community” before stepping away from the show. His exit came in the wake of increasingly public disagreements between him and Harmon, as well as a widely reported incident in which Chase allegedly said the N-word on set.
The latter incident was reportedly prompted by Chase’s growing frustrations with his character’s politically incorrect, racially insensitive storylines, one of which involved him performing a gag with a blackface hand puppet. In response to that bit, it has been reported that Chase asked aloud whether or not he would next be expected to say the N-word as his character. (He asked said question by allegedly saying the N-word himself.)
“Community” director Jay Chandrasekhar claims in “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not” that the moment resulted in Chase’s co-star Yvette Nicole Brown, a Black actress, storming off the set. When Chase’s remark subsequently leaked to the press, he purportedly had a “meltdown,” during which he declared that his career was “ruined.” He left “Community” shortly afterward.
“It was too great a misunderstanding of what I was saying and not saying,” Chase told the Times about his “Community” departure. “I thought that there was at least one person — and another who, for some ungodly reason, didn’t get me, didn’t know who I was, or didn’t realize for one second I’m not racist. They were too young to be aware of my work. Instead, there was some sort of visceral reaction from them.”

Who cares about what an old Shriveled up past his prime Vaudeville actor says. He should just go in an old dusty corner and disintegrate. The world won’t miss him at all. Chevy who? Ain’t that a car?

^ it's funny you say that about him because he was never on my radar. I forgot he ever existed. LOLO

So let me understand this: the writers had him doing racist skits that he was opposed to and he got frustrated and allegedly said y’all want me to say the N!gger next, and she got mad about that. So he didn’t call her any names. She just heard it. Then he left the show anyway and she still mad. Doesn’t sound racist to me but okay.

I dont get the controversy. He wasnt being malicious. He was complaining about the character and how low they'll allow him to sink. She was being dramatic.

Another overreaction…typical.

I now see why she didn't want her name in their mouth. She is mad adjacent. Context is important and she is right to watch her mouth when speaking on the situation lest she get sued for defamation. He didn't say it to her, it was about a situation with the writers and producers that he got the backlash and hate shamed for. Maybe if he had said N-word instead of the actual word it wouldn't be an issue. Weird situation.
