Damon Dash Ordered to Pay $800k in Damages


Back in 2019 Damon Dash was sued for copyright infringement and defamation of character by the Muddy Waters independent filmmaking group after Dame continued to pitch their movie to studios and networks long after they kicked him off the project [click here if you missed that].

Nate Parker Accused of Stealing Black Streaming Network Idea


Five years ago actor Nate Parker was 'canceled' after it was revealed that he had been accused of raping a white girl in college, who later committed suicide, just before the opening of his Nat Turner biopic 'Birth of a Nation [click here if you missed that].' 

Now Nate is being accused of stealing the format for a Black centered streaming platform from a lesser known creative...

Oscar Buzz is Getting Louder

Over the weekend the film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was screened in East Hampton and the more and more people are saying Monique should be a shoe-in for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. The Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry backed film won rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and at Cannes. Precious is scheduled for a November release.

Jeffrey Wright Got Tasered


Actor Jeffrey Wright [Lackawana Blues, Basquiat, Boycott, Shaft] got arrested down in Shreveport, Lousiana last week after he and some of the crew from his latest film got into a bar fight with some locals. Jeffrey is playing Colin Powell to Josh Brolin's George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's new movie 'W'. Details are sketchy, but they say Jeffrey wasn't involved in the actual fight. After the cops showed up, Jeff and Josh tried to speak up for their friends and Jeffrey got tasered, called the n-word and thrown in jail, and Josh Brolin got the pepper spray treatment. Six others from the crew, including Josh Brolin were also arrested.

Spike Lee Facing a Mutiny on Set


The crew on Spike Lee's new movie, "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Kills You," are upset

"A lot of people took pay cuts to do Spike a favor," said one crew member, who estimated 20-30 people were out up to $3,000 each. An accountant for production company Drop Squad said: "It's not a matter of if [they get paid], but when."
