Kindred Canceled After One Season

Two years ago Octavia Butler fans were elated after it was announced that her debut novel 'Kindred' was being adapted for TV [click here if you missed that].

Welp, the series is one and done...

According to reports FX is not moving forward with a new season of Kindred. The series is expected to be shopped to a new network.

Kindred debuted Dec. 13, launching all eight episodes.

As much as I admire and appreciate Octavia Butler, I'm also exhausted from these slave narratives that refuse to show how slavery impacted the modern world of economics, legal systems, and trade.

I love OB and I loved this series! This has Netflix written all over it so I hope it gets picked up!

It deserved to end. There was SO MUCH good about it but then again so many many missed opportunities (and lots of limitations to rewriting history). You could tell the writers were white just by some of the dumb storylines.

Spoilers:
Dumb: so you go back in time to save your ancestors from death to ensure your family line is born, BUT your reality is in the future and from that perspective all of your family up to this point has been born, lived and died, so what's the point of saving your ancestors from death if they have already lived and died? Why not use the opportunity to go back into slavery and effect something bigger than your self interest? Why, because the writers were white.

You never go back into slavery to do anything transcendent for the slaves.

Once she figured out how to time travel she should have taken so many slaves with her

Anyway, there is another movie on Hulu called Kindred that is excellent.

@!0:24 you are so right about that. I mean cause there was a bible that list all of the ancestors so like you said they were born. But I would've loved to see how her mom related to being in the present day and how she was going to save her boyfriend.

Read the book and you’ll get some of your answers. The tv show truncated the plot and left out some of the important parts.

Never watched tired of slavery being the way or story is told in there networks.

If it was on black owned entity I would have supported, ie Roland Martin, Knarrative etc.

GOOD! I had such high hopes for this show, never read the book (which I hear is better and more concise). The lead actress was horrible, she only had one facial expression of confusion. She acted puzzled about how she was being treated as a slave. Like girl, you ain’t never pick up a history book? The show was based in 2016, she should have known how to “slave” to manipulate da white man. When she offered to teach massa how to read? What da hell did she think was going to happen? I stopped watching after she told that little black boy she couldn’t time travel him back to 2016, after his father was sold. But she threw herself in front of a wagon to save Rufus the little white boy. “RUFUS!!! No, no, no, we have to save Rufus”. I was so done. Good riddance! BRING BACK UNDERGROUND!!

@1:38 yes underground was really good. I was actually surprised she didn’t get whipped from the jump. She was violating a lot of rules that was back then.

It had potential but her going back to save a little red head sickly white master boy that would eventually rape her great great grandma....just no

@10:04 AM Like the Time Haters Dave Chappelle's skit. He gave the slaves a gun.

Some runaways slaves got hold of guns, revolted, killed the enemy, helped others and escaped captive. But they don’t want us to know about those events. That’s one reason DeSantis is shutting down “woke” Black history in the state of Florida.

It won’t stop us from learning about our history. It only encourages us to seek the answers that make sense.

It just seemed like they got lost, because it was not true to the story. It had all the plots right, but because it was written for the screen by the others, it just didn't flow. I wanted to like it, because of OB, but I couldn't.
