Charles Barkley Changing His Will After Affirmative Action Ruling

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Affirmative Action in higher education [click here if you missed that].

After the ruling retired NBA player Charles Barkley vowed to change his will to benefit Black students...

From AL
The Supreme Court’s ruling declaring race can no longer be used as a criterion for college admissions was a “shot across the bow, man,” says Charles Barkley.
Upon hearing the news on Thursday, the NBA Hall of Famer was moved to do something to support future Black students attending Auburn, his alma mater. Something significant.
“In my will, I am leaving Auburn $5 million,” he said Friday. “I’m going to change it to be just for scholarships for Black students. That’s just my way of trying to make sure Auburn stays diverse.
“I love Auburn,” he added. “I’ve actually changed it to be used for kids from poor homes. But after that ruling yesterday, my phone was blowing up. I was talking to my friends and said, ‘I need to make sure Black folks always have a place at Auburn. So, I’m gonna change my will and make it exclusive for Black students—all $5 million.’ It’s just for me the right thing to do. I always want to make sure that Auburn’s diverse.”

I guess the rules depend on the state(?) but I work at a university where you cannot say a scholarship is only for one specific type of student. We are a public school funded by state taxes so we cannot discriminate with scholarships, clubs or even events.

We had a donor once that wanted to specify which type of student could receive his scholarship donation but changed his mind when we told him that we could not limit the applicant pool.

His kids are mixed so who knows which “blk” works for him. I’m not his fan because of that but better from him than nothing

Charles back and see him he needs to make sure that Black people have a place at all there. Auburn is a 90% white school. The only reason he went there was because of Sports. Charles is gone. His new name shall be. Koon Barcley.
